He was a good fighter, rushed cause of his eye and because he was looking very vulnerable in each outing.

He took the title from a tough european fighter and defended it against a fighter that beat Terry Norris and who also fought Winky Wright.

He lost to Kirino Garcia but got the decision.

He was beating Trinidad but then Trinidads power came into play, but he gave a great showing against Trinidad.

In an amateur fight Daniel Santos screwed up his eye lid and his career, he would have been real tough to beat without the eye lid problem. He basically couldn't see the punches coming from one of his eyes.

LOL he has his fights cancelled everytime. Seriously, I can recall about 6 of his fights that have been called off because of different reasons.

He's scheduled to fight Jose Antonio "El Gallo" Rivera soon, if it's not postponed.

Around 97-99 David Reid Vs Fernando Vargas was maybe the biggest 'dream match' of up and coming stars of that time.
You couldn't read anything about boxing at that time without a tale of the tape between them popping up.

Reid was a good basic boxer who had also had good power but seemed to lack stamina and always had the eye problem to deal with.

At first everyone would go after his bad eye but that was a mistake because in most cases he would adabt and out box the opponent while they spent round after round going after that one target.

At some point someone had the unbelievable relivation that if you work his good eye instead of going after the bad as he would expect then he wouldn't be able to see at all once the good one was closed.

Tito Trinidad gave him a detached retina during their fight which makes how well he did even that more outstanding.

Anyway he was a very good fighter who had some good tools but may have rushed himself along a bit to fast but in his case that may have been the best and only way he could have done it with the eye problems.

I guess you could say his career didn't last long enough to truly say how good he could have been but I think he showed enough to tell that had situations been better, he would still be boxing today.
