    what got you into boxing?

hi im new to this forum and new to boxing.... started about a month before the summer holidays and was interested why people decided to start boxing....for me it has so far helped gain more confidence and stay off drugs, people use to call me **** and **** like that boxing has helped me to just not give a *** i geuss and keep out of depression because i know that i love the sport and that is something no one can take away from me.... anyway when i finish school i would like to write a book on boxing around the world and what it means to people my worse fear is it becomes a book filled with facts and appeals only to people already intrested in boxing any ideas and comments would be aprecciated

it appears you should have spent more time on the correct placement of full stops before you started boxing.

I got into the sport because its my favorite and it was the only thing on an athletic level that I showed potential in. Plus my grandfather used to box. He won some sort of amateur middleweight title back in 1949. He had a chance to go to Washington to train to go pro but he turned it down to play football. I guess I picked up the boxing gene from him. I'm training now so I hope I can go somewhere with it.

I don't box seriously, I do it as a hobby and to stay in shape. My cousin is a boxer so he got me into boxing when i was small. Ive been following boxing for as long as i can remember.

Growing up in Philadelphia I always heard tale of a mythical boxing legend named "Joe Frazier" and my family used to talk of his fights a lot. When I found out he was a hometown hero in the sport, I started watching his fights and that set it off. What set off my obsession with it is kinda cliche' but true, I saw "Rocky" when I was about 7 years old and that's when I began my obsession.

One day my brother and I bought boxing gloves after watching the Rocky movies(this was in 2005), and we liked to kick the **** out of each other...i knew some names but never really saw a fight...One day i found a boxing site by sheer luck, and i saw fights to download, I decided to download 2,Oscar De la Hoya vs Shane Mosley 1 and Barrera Morales 3...because i knew the names(except Mosley)....and i was blown away...specially by Oscar who here in Mexico almost everybody refered to as a rich pretty boy who was an *******...but when i saw him i knew the kid could ****ing fight even if he clearly lost...

since late 2005 that i saw those 2 fights i probably have watched boxing every day.......

My moms had me watch ali frazier when I was younger (on replay I am nowhere near that old). I went on hiatus and I actually got back to watching it because of UFC 12 I believe, the standup was subpar and I wanted to see what ereal fluent standup was like.
