i used to swim and it help my weight stay constant.

running is a must for boxing and any other sport swimming is extra.

Jaun Diaz does stepmaster and swimming and doesnt have time for running because he is also not only the world champion boxer but a law student so he needs to balance his stuff

      This is anecdotal, not scientific.

Floyd Mayweather, Jr runs alot. He doesn't swim. And he is the best conditioned fighter in the sport. What's your point?

Running is more demanding, and will get you in shape faster, and keep your peak at a higher level.

If you are holding your breath for minutes at a time, then you aren't swimming right. LOL

                  K-Ball.

You have never participated in high-level sports. You are not athletic. This is what I believe.

The fact that you are saying that "holding your breath for minutes at a time" is a) something that you would/should do in swimming or b) something that would enhance your exercise, or c) something that you should do while in ANY training , indicates to me that you haven't trained.

An integral part to athletics and training is breath control. It enhances your aerobic capacity, and you need the oxygen to replenish your red blood cells to give you stamina.

Every good trainer tells and teaches you to breathe.. not to HOLD your breath.

Being able to hold your breath and having large lung capacity is a consequence of - not a process in - training.

Swimming is better than running in every way. You'll build your stamina faster, and you'll incur less stress to your joints. Less trauma all around to the body while lung capacity skyrockets and bodyfat plummets.

Swim a mile a day for six months and you'll look like Wladmir.

I know guys who can swim like fish all day long, but tell them to run up a couple city blocks and they're ready to pass out. The human body is naturally boyant and therefore is in a more relaxed state in the water. In all actually, there is more resistance on land to the human body than there is in water, so yes, running requires more effort and gets you in better cardiovascular shape.
