Any minute now the guys will come up from the MMA forum and post a bunch of crap.

Anyway, here's my take on it.

I'm a fan of combat sports. I always have been. I don't watch baseball, football, soccer, auto racing, golf, tennis, or whatever the hell else they pass off as "sports" these days.

I first heard of the UFC and MMA when I was 14 years old. I had been watching boxing already for 9 years and salivated at the thought of another sport based on combat skills. I knew I would never like it as much as I did boxing because A.) I came from a City where boxers were treated as gods among men and B.) I grew up on boxing.

After hearing it combined every discipline of martial arts and the only thing not allowed were punches to the neck, I was interested. I went out and spent $100 on a collection of MMA tapes (before it was televised, this was around '97). What I got was not what I paid for, plain and simple.

While there were guys whom watching fight was amazing like Fedor Belfort, Frank Shamrock, and Royce Gracie. There were also a lot of what seemed to be "tag along" guys....guys who were into the sport but not able to put everything together like a Shamrock or Gracie.

Ever since then I've still watched it occasionally but everytime I do I'm constantly reminded of why I stopped. MMA is a perfect promotion machine that fails to deliver what is expected of it. There are still some guys who are great to watch fight like Hughes, St.Pierre, Couture, and even some prospects who are very exciting. The rest of the guys are filler material IMO.

Everytime I tune in I tune in to see combat and it ends up being two low talent guys who doesn't even know how to throw a basic jab correctly swinging for the fences. Either that or two guys wrestling around on the ground, trying to choke each other.

As a fan of boxing who grew up on it, I can't watch fighters who lack even amateur boxing abilities duke it out. It's a glorified toughman contest IMO, with a few guys who really know how to combine their disciplines. Sadly, when most MMA guys try to combine disciplines it becomes too many things to try to do at once, therefore looking sloppy and amateurish.

No MMA fight will ever be able to capture my attention and imagination like a boxing match will. Take any MMA FOTY and compare it to a boxing FOTY and it will pail in comparison.

Again, just my opinion and everybody's entitled to theirs. But I've given the UFC and MMA in general chance after chance and everytime I tune in I'm disappointed and end up watching boxing clips online.

This keep impressing me, a die hard boxing fan creates a topic dissing MMA and trying to multiply the hate.

I mean, c'mon guys... How many topic of this kind do we need? Can't you act like adults?

Everyone has their own taste, altough I prefer Boxing over MMA, I don't feel the need to diss the sport.

You have no idea how far some of those MMA guys go. They post here strictly for the MMA and go out of their way to discredit boxers and the sport I grew up watching. That may have come off as childish but if you knew the level of haters we were discussing you'd realize how it was meant.

I have no general problem with MMA, I just don't see it's appeal. I'll always watch MMA every now and then to spot a good fight, because they happen in MMA sometimes. I'm speaking on a general level, and more often than not it disappoints me.

I hear you, I can totally understand that.

But from what I've seen lately we've been way more disrespectful than the MMA die hard fans and this topic is just a proof of it. We're just feeding more hate to the MMA vs boxing war.

We seriously need to delete or ban this kind of thing. It's useless plus it has been discussed thousand of times. Not to mention it doesn't bring anything else than hate and flame.

I hope you get my point.

First educate yourself in ground game, and than we can talk again about MMA.

First off before I get hated on big time. I want to say that I love boxing. I grew up on it, I live for it, and I'll keep watching it until I'm old and have a drool cup hanging from my neck. However I also like watching the UFC and I think it has some really good potential to be great, especailly with the UFC's purchase of Pride. You guys got to remember that they have to train for different disciplines when your in the mma thats why they aren't as great looking as boxers when they fight. Yeah it looks like a street fight but how many of you would want to fight a professional street fighter. Plus unlike boxing where the focus is the main event, and on the rare occasion you get a decent card. The UFC generally puts on a decent show. Like I stated before I love both equally but I also realize that they are different styles of fighting.

To give you an understanding of why I respect both sports let me give you a little of my background. When I was in my teens I started to learn boxing, I never went into the amatuers but I figured it would be a great way to learn some defense and how to throw a decent punch, then in my 20's I went into the Marine Corps and met some really decent guys and we all started to train together in the gym. Some of the guys were former amatuer boxers, and some were all state wrestlers. We decided to learn from each other and see what the different styles would be like. This was back in '95 before the UFC and Pride were big things. Yeah the boxers would whoop on the wrestlers in stand up but if we threw a hook and missed we ended up on our backs. I still perferred boxing and thought that although a take down was nice a stiff jab would always keep a wrestler off of ya. Well now I'm 33 and I decided to take up boxing again to stay in shape but I wanted to see if there was anything to this Jiu Jitsu. One day I made the mistake of telling the instructor of a Jiu Jitsu school that a good boxer would always beat a good MMA practitioner. So the instructor decided to show the strength of BJJ and put me in with a one of his students that had only been practicing for 6 months. We strapped on the gloves and off we went for a sparring session that really opened my eyes. While the fight was on the feet I was peppering this kid with jabs and stiff rights like you couldn't believe. I got hit a few times but nothing really solid since I was able to dance around his shots and basically keep him off balance. Then when I saw my chance I threw a right hook and **** off my feet I went. Because I was off balance from the throw he was immediately in side control and before I knew it he was in mount. We stood back up and did it again, but every time I landed on the ground I couldn't keep this kid from getting control. I'm no weak ***** but his understanding and skill was way above mine and it was easy for him to dominate on the ground. Just as it was easy for me to dominate on my feet. Later we went to the weight room and I was astounded to find that although this kid was whoopin my ass I was actually stronger than him. I bench 185 10 reps for 5 sets where this kid was strugglin with 135 for the same amount of sets.

The whole boxing vs. MMA is pointless and futile its like car racing and motorcycle racing. I know most of you guys are purists and love the complexity of boxing and the dedication it takes to be a champ, but to say that MMA requires less intensity and is less skill full is incorrect. If you don't believe me, go to the nearest BJJ school and talk to the instructor. They will be more than happy to give you a lesson (these guys are great and very willing to give a free class on most occasions), the only thing they ask is that you leave your attitude at the door and come to actually learn with an open mind.

Damn that was long "MY BAD!"

ive trained in both and MMA training is much harder than boxing training, in boxing you can have everything mastered at 30 like floyd, Ju Jitsu takes years to master EVERYTHING in it
