The real reason behind Atlas's choice of mab over PAC

I already see alot of the PAC haters jumping on Teddy Atlas's bandwagon of mab defeating PAC(LOL).

Prior to Teddy's pick the consensus was that PAC was gonna do a repeat on mab, maybe even more devastating this time around.

Here's the reason why Teddy made the surprising pick...

Teddy is a huge/infuential/very vocal supporter of the sport. The PAC - mab rematch isn't gathering as much attention as the other upcoming fights as we've seen on ES*N polls, it ranks a far 3rd, behind Mosley - Cotto and Mayweather - Hatton.

To gain interest from the fans, it's Teddy's job/and probably favors from GBP and Top Rank to say somethin' that will get the fans to think it over and maybe, just maybe, the fans who are not willing to shell out $50 - $60 for another PAC onslaught. I mean, think about it. In Teddy Atlas's world and his boxing buddies, the world would be a better place if all the PPV boxing events would do huge numbers.

Barrera will have his moments in the rematch, MAB will come in much more prepared for this rematch, but the speed, the speed will be too much as Morales found out.

When was the last time MAB looked good against fighters whose money punch was straight down the pipe? The answer: NEVER.

He was tko'd twice by Junior Jones, always had difficulty w/ Morales's straight right, and was almost decapitated by PAC if his corner didn't throw in the towel. MAB has never figured out how to stop the straight punch and at 33, I don't see it happening. AND PAC is the biggest puncher of them all, and right now is probably at his strongest. Speed, power will be too much for MAB.

Some of you say that MAB is always better the second time around. True, but it was against a fighter who didn't have a straight hand to speak of. PAC's straight punch is arguably the best today! And the 33 year old MAB will once again get stopped in his tracks, forget that... he'll get DESTROYED by the DESTROYER.

I just don't get why everyone thinks this fight is a landslide. I just don't get it. Barrera looked great against Marquez... I'm not sure when he got "shot" like everyone thinks he is, but I'd favor him to beat Pacquiao, just because Pacquiao is too one dimensional, and if there is one thing Barrera is good at, it is solving the puzzle to beating a fighter in a rematch.

well he picked MAB because in MAB career he came back strong evne after couple of loss and people written him off.

I was going with MAB winning even before Atlas was said it.

another thing is Pac his hitting headline with many unrelievate boxing news as well as his sudden departure to philipines and stuff says there is some problem in the Pac camp

wait, junior jones TKO'd barrera? twice?

i do agree with you though. barrera will probably . even if he can make tactical adjustments, pacman's raw talent in terms of speed, explosiveness, and power will more than likely break through whatever craft MAB will try pull out this time around. i'm going with pacquiao, mid-late TKO.

and don't worry about the numbers. it'll probably do another 300,000

no bro, on the second jr jones fight it was a decision victory for jones...

IMHO Marco will look better on the rematch than the first fight and it will look much closer to PAC-EM 2...

if barerras in shape there no way pacqioua can win.. barerra is never in rediculous shape and beats everybody.. hes the most techincally skilled fighter in the world..pazqioua to me just out conditions his opponents and throws punches non stop .. if you can get pacqioua to respect you , you can pick him aprt like marquez did.. but if you can earn his respect your in for hell.. if barerra can earn his respect he will win if not he better be prepared to go to war for twelve rounds in stead of 8.. and you have to remeber nobody thought pacqioua was all that great before he fought barerra the first time so barerra underetimated him

these were MAB's excuses in the first fight. ita almost verbatim.

yeah pac's so out of shape his first sparring session he almost KO'd his opponent who was wearing headgear.

Oh yeah, I remember now it was a 5th round DQ because MAB's corner got involved trying to save MAB for the inevitable thrashing, just like they cried while PAC was tatooing mab all over the Alamo and the rematch was a UD for Jones.

I agree with you, it would be similar to PAC - em 2, only in a different way, I don't think MAB's jab would be the key like it was for EM. Once PAC tags him w/ that first big shot and follows it up with his new found weapon ,the right hook, the onslaught begins.

PAC is gonna outhustle mab on the inside. mab will not be able to run around the way he did against a cement footed Juarez or a one punch at a time bomber in NAZ(the only times mab looked good boxing, really)

Barrera's only chance is to be first. He's not fast enough to counter punch right now. He needs to be in excellent shape, and he needs to keep that jab snapping all night, and he needs to move.

What are you smoking dude? mab got outworked from the outside as well as on the inside by JMM. Everytime jmm and mab traded punches, jmm was unleashing 4-5 punches against 2 from mab and sometimes neither of those 2 punches from mab even landed. Why do you think JMM got a wide UD? What, it was a fixed fight again(lol)

It would've done wonders as far as PPV $$$ are concerned if mab would've defeated jmm, a fighter PAC had a draw with. I scored the fight something like 117-109 for JMM against mab(i wanted mab to win too, because i thought that for sure it was gonna be a PAC -jmm rematch, which obviously is a style nightmare for PAC).

Anyway, the last time mab fought someone that had a solid straight punch was not too long ago and that fighter was erik. even in winning mab ate alot of straight punches again! He really has difficulty w/ the straight punch and pac arguably has the quickest, most devastating straight punch in the business. mab's left hook is still solid, but it doesn't come out of the holster like it used to, its inevitable that mab at some point, maybe even in the first round that he is gonna mix it up w/ PAC and PAC will win those exchanges.

Everytime mab gets hit w/ something solid it takes him a few seconds to recover and PAC is great at following it up, it will be a rough night for mab. i see the white, green, and red towel being thrown in the ring again.

What I would like to see more from PAC are uppercuts, and more lateral movement. lateral movement, left hands and hooks/uppercuts to mab's face and body we'll see the tears from mab's corner and fans once more(hehe)

If PAC utilizes his lateral movement wisely w/ good work to the body, mab will be gasping for air by the 6th -7th round.
