Cotto doesn't use the headbutts as much as the nut shots - but he was ramming into Malignaggi head first more than usual that night.

Miguel was fortunate to get things in gear. He nearly lost that fight.

Nut shots are a PR tradition, you jerk! Cotto was offended that Zab didn't throw any back. It's considered an insult in PR culture.

He is the best pressure fighter in the sport

He is the best body puncher the game has seen since a prime chavez and i think a better body puncher personally

He does not have a "granite" chin, but does not have a "bad" chin either

He has better hand speed than meets the eye

better technical proficiency than most give him credit

Like Winky Wright he seems to be one of the best at actually listening to his corner and executing the gameplan they have provided

great stamina and a huge heart that does not know how to quit

He has fought brawlers, slick boxers, tall and rangey punchers, crafty southpaws, South paws with punching power and awesome hand speed, experienced veterans, up and coming undefeated hungry fighters, and many guys in-between. He beat them all and most left the ring deformed, bleeding and broken.

Put all this together with the fact that he is one of the few guys who will throw down with anyone put in front of him even the great shane Mosley and I cant see how you cannot like this guy.
Good stuff, Freedom - but when you get into the section on who he's fought you're stretching. He's fought, truly, nobody aside from a couple of guys well below the grade of A.

Cotto does something that very few modern era fighters have thought to do and that's hit every sensitive part of the torso and head beyond the traditional target areas. I think it's clever and innovative of him. It favors his strengths as well. He hits the shoulders, armpit, chest, ribcage, forearms, elbows, clavicle, neck, intestine, upper back, mid back, lower back - basically anything he can target.

Boxers prepare their abdomen and head for taking damage - but they don't spend as much time, if any, on the areas Miguel Cotto does his damage. He weakens his opponents by striking unorthodox parts of the body. Miguel pounds on any area his opponents will give him. He won't get doscouraged - it's a perfect marriage of qualities and factors. Nothing fancy.

no im not stretching, I did not say he has fought the creme de la creme but he has fought a variety of guys considered very good, top contenders, some are now champions, some used to be Champions and p4p, some were supposed to be champions, some were merely gate keepers who stopped many that were unworthy of the next level. Many i believe were broken by cotto and had a tough time coming back from the beatings he gave them. As far as your theory on what Cotto does offensively, i agree somewhat. He hits you! Hits you often, accurately and he is a heavy handed clubber with the type of power that does damage more often than seperating you from consciousness. It aint rocket science but to execute that gameplan effectively you gotta be willin to walk thru fire, and he seems to be able to do just that. 1 other thing he does that I like is he seems to be improving. His chin is better at 147, he cuts off the ring better than any current fighter, he is patient but knows how to finish, His jab in the Judah fight was extremely hard, accurate and fast and he continues to throw in combinations, something that most guys that find success stop doing altogether. We will see what happens soon tho, what will you think if he beats Mosley in the same manner as Judah(of course minus the low blows you continue to reference relentlessly)?

I see.. You're transposing onto others a bit of your enthusiasm..

Well Freedom, I am not a Miguel Cotto fan as you know - and I myself am very enthisiastic about anyone who is really great at what they do. It doesn't matter if it's classical ballet or arm wrestling.. But Cotto is not my ****ing thing.

I find him to be a .357 Magnum with the stopping power of a .22. A .22 can kill you if it hits the right spots.. Certainly, a .22 can kill a small animal.

Cotto steps outside to get an angle and lunges in until his opponent stops enough so he can club away. The reason he fouls as much as he does (caught and uncaught) is because Miguel Cotto has ZERO precision. NONE.. I do believe most of it is indeed unintentional.

He's a strong compact guy in a smaller, mid sized man division where the bodies of his opponents are vulnerable to his type of full body punching. These welters are all ribs and bones comparitively - in a heavier division Miguel would have alot more tissue, muscle, and fat to go through to cause that kind of damage.

You see; Miguel Cotto is alot like the AIDS virus. First he weakens your immune system, then he can go in there and destroy your vital organs. But he doesn't have the raw power or the PRECISION to knock his opponents out clean and/or early.

            I don't like ****ers who can't ****, basically.

Miguel has to hit you in the back a few times, maybe in the shoulder, or the joints around your appendages... Slow you down. Then he can go to work.

Most of all - Miguel Cotto is a ONE TRICK PONY.

That **** does nothing for me..

Does he have a choice, really??

Look at the guy - he's either too slow, dumb, or lazy to get out of the way.

When Cotto does that to someone who is as naturally strong and thick as he is - then we have something. But could he step back and tool a fellow clubber like Juan Urango like Ricky Hatton did?

As you might expect; I have serious doubts.

Miguel shows skills, but nothing that has made me take a major head check. His fans are as enthusiastic about his tough guy handsome hunched shoulders "Boxer" type image - as they are any overblown victory.

When Cotto loses to Mosley - there will be no "I told you so" from me.

I'm embarrassed it has gotten this far.

Yo Addison, don't quit your day job in the token Booth... You big, fake azz Larry Merchant on angel dust. WTF!? Miguel Cotto is the fckin man right now.
Miguel is probably the cleanest, classiest fighter out there.

This is the fight game....and Nobody is more foul than that BS champ Hopkins. Zab too is ****** in the ring. Hatton is a WWF reject..Are you serious??? WTF! Ali used to grab behind the head...hold and hit.. Holyfield the headbutt King...Nah.. Miguel Cotto wins on sheer aggression, ring smarts and relentless attack. Clean...You should watch him fight sometimes instead of giving in to your need to hate him.

Floyd is going to get herbed if he ever steps in the ring with Miguel Cotto. He will be destroyed, round by round. Slowly but surely..mouth full of blood, kidney swollen, face disfigured...all it takes is a few Cotto shots to the cheekbones. And believe me, Cotto will land. Just like the rest of the so called superior competiiton that somehow failed against Cotto Floyd is due an boricua style, asswhoopin.
