Hatton was afraid of Mayweather according to some of the chumps on here, now he's taken the fight he's convinced he can't win and just looking for a payday? Straws. At. Clutching.
Its a mixture of things, hatton's bluff was called tho for sure by floyd, hatton never expected floyd to come out and make the fight happen.

his confidence is another one of his best assets, the prospect of defeat probably doesn't even enter his mind. Unlike for instance somebody like De La Hoya who already has scripted and memorized his post fight speeches for HBO following a loss weeks before the fight even starts.

You can make someone "Never the same".
For example: Fernando Vargas was "never the same" after the beating that he took from Trinidad. Feroz was all downhill after that. Tito did that to alot of cats.
