It's because he's american. He just happens to be of filipino descent. So it's pretty much like saying Rocky Juarez doesnt have much of a mexican following.

the Philippines shouldnt put their stock in just one fighter, what happens if the only care you drive breaks down?

Then you will have yourself a heartbreak situation similar to when Mike Tyson was upset by Buster Douglas. But in reality..Anyone actually familiar with boxing the Philippines actually dont care too much about Pacquiao because they are aware he's not the most talented guy out there. It just so happens that he has become a rockstar to the general public because people can readily identify with his rags to riches story and balls to the wall courage he displays in his fights. Constantly beating technically superior and more athletically gifted opponent after another. Just Imagine Pacquiao as real life miniature version of Rocky Balboa who went from being a nobody..getting a gift in the opportunity to fight the world champ..(Ledwaba or Barrera depending on where you saw Pac's stock take off) And after a great showing suddenly had all of Philly fall in love with him. (Philippines obviously in Pac's case)

I have seen his fight when he beat the Indonesian champ for the IBF title. Not impressed. He won by split decision, he had 2 knockdowns in the fight. Always trying to KO his opponents, his boxing skills is not good. He gets hit a lot. Unless he improves his boxing skills, he would lose his title.
