Does Hatton Have the Style to Give Mayweather Trouble?

I've heard people say Hatton has the perfect style to give Mayweather trouble and possibly beat him. Others say it's the other way around and Hatton is actually tailor made for Mayweather. What do you think?

    BOTH!

    Heres why:

Another boxer with Hatton's style is the perfect antidote for mayweather as long as the judges support the aggressor, however...

Hatton is too small and at 147 will be too slow to put that syle to much use against mayweather.

I agree. floyd has the wrong style for hatton because he is a slick boxer and it will give hatton a lot of trouble. Hatton has the wrong style for floyd because he is agrressive, rough, and he will put pressure on floyd.

i think hatton has the style and substance to give mayweather problems. in other threads i've said this. i honestly believe he has a very legitimate chance to beat mayweather. I'm not talking about a punchers chance (even though if all else fails he has that too) but i mean a real legitimate 12 round decision win chance.

Hatton is younger which means (i dont know about everyone else...but too me) he's going to naturally have the advantage when it gets later in the fight. hatton trains just as hard as mayweather and (in my opinion) has good coniditoning so mayweather cannot bank on hatton tiring (like he did for de la hoya). if thats mayweathers plan then he will be sorely mistaken come rounds 8-12.

hatton is NOT a 1 dimensional fighter...he can mix it up with you and trade at close range...he can box you...he can box you and wear you down with body punches...so basically he has the ability to adapt and adjust as the fight wears on.

in this situation i dont think mayweather is going to change his gameplan mid-fight for one reason...well first of all i believe mayweather is going to stay away from hatton and try to counter the whole fight...and i dont think mayweather will be able to change his gameplan and trade with hatton for one reason...hattons chin is tough and if he trys to trade with hatton i think he would get hurt pretty bad.

im not saying it would happen (ie. floyd getting knocked out) but it would be a huge fear mayweather would have if he found himself standing in front of hatton slugging it out because i firmly dont believe hatton will get knocked out due to the fact his chin is tough and i dont think mayweather's power is stronger than his chin. he's a tough guy.

hatton's combinations are lightning fast compared to just about all of the fighters mayweather has recently faced in the last 2 years so if there is an opening you can count on hatton to break mayweather down slowly.

hatton is also an excellent body puncher (in this department i see a lot of cotto in hatton) and i expect hatton to body punch mayweather early and often to slow him down and make him an easier target.

i look for hatton to start the fight boxing mayweather and sneaking in body punches to slow him down (ie. faint the right and slug a left hook to mayweather's body...).

note: mayweather loves to keep his jab hand down...if ricky faints a right floyd is going to focus on getting that left hand up and while he's focusing on getting it up hatton can slug the body. look for that in the early part of the fight.

as it wears on hatton is going to go upstairs and go head hunting (if he slows down mayweather)

mayweather also has many advantages as well...

mayweather has faced stiffer competition (in my opinion) and that means he is going to be the more well-rounded fighter.

he's also the p4p champ so if it goes to the cards mayweather has an advantage because many close rounds will probably go to mayweather...

mayweather is a good counterpuncher and defensive fighter and will try to play a chess match with hatton if this happens hatton might get knocked around for 12 rounds (not knocked down...or out...but beat convincingly) so hatton needs to not allow mayweather to play a game of smarts with him because mayweather will win that battle.

hatton has to make mayweather fight his fight...not allow mayweather to dictate the way the fight unfolds.

my heart is pulling for hatton but my mind says mayweather has the advantages.

either way it should be closer than most predict. i dont see a mayweather fighting a shutout or knocking hatton silly and embarrasing him...i see it a lot closer than most predict.

If you ignore Floyd's almost supernatural levels of skill, style-wise Hatton has the advantages. Floyd is primarily a counter-punching boxer, and the best style to beat a counter-punching boxer is a fighter who throws a lot of punches. Reason is you can counter the first punch but there's four more coming at you right behind it.

Of course we're looking at the best boxer and counterpuncher on the planet so it's not quite the same as simply saying rock-paper-scissors. Anyone who suggests that style-wise Hatton is "tailor made" for Mayweather to beat hasn't watched either man fight.

Mayweather's physical attributes are the main reason he will beat hatton:

              Height

              +

              Reach

              +

              Hand Speed

              +

              Footspeed...

Cmon ppl, the douchebag walks away with another one, and the boxing world goes home disssapointed once again. I love Ricky Hatton though, he's the man.

Hatton is as fast on his feet as Floyd. His handspeed is less, but reach and height won't be much of an issue, this is going to be a close range affair.

the reach and height are going to be THE issue, didnt you see how Mayweather measured OScar with his reach advantage last fight?

at 140, the speed thing is a non-issue, I agree, but Hatton loses more speed than mayweather in the jump to 147.

i agree because mayweather came down in weight (giving him the advantage) because he will be lighter...thus faster...

hatton will be going up...making him slower.
