boxing is a great sport and the internet has allowed many people view interviews and press coverage etc which we may not have seen on normal tv. great match ups but we also have to wait and see how much excitement there will be when the well known guys fight some young prospects.Comment

Boxing really did take it's head out of it's ass and now it's pumping out the hard hitting prospects and the wars that we like to see. Also look at the current top 10 p4p. There are so many guys in there that are warriors who will throw down in almost any fight.Comment

Boxing will always trump MMA. MMA is really nothing new, it's been going on since ancient history. Boxing will always resonate more strongly with the wider audience because a good boxing match sells itself. The energy is there for all to see, and you don't need to be an expert in technique to understand the drama and excitement of what is going on. It's layered entertainment. Yeah there is a lot of technique and strategy being employed at all times for pure fans but the drama is so simple (two guys trying to impose their will on one another) that anyone can appreciate a fight like Bowe-Holyfield or Ali-Frazier.
Boxing, more often than in MMA, provides competitive closely contested fights with a thrilling conclusion. In MMA it's usually an early stoppage or a long, drawn out, technical fight that ends in a submission (less exciting to the casual observer than a knockout).
Boxing is more often the dynamic sport that delivers the pain, struggle, and triumph of the human spirit that attracts people who want to experience these things vicariously.
So here's the thing that most people don't get: boxing is a very spiritual thing for me. That is the huge point that many less philosophical and spiritually inclined minds miss. It's the reason I am not as impressed with the technical minded cautious fighters who clearly do it for the money and fame but can't stand getting hit. There is something missing in the minds and hearts of guys like that. There are NOT the complete package they are built up to be. There are weaknesses, *****s in the armor, that can be exposed by a balls to the walls Bassilio type.
I respect Mayweather and guys like that but I just love the Marciano's, Frazier's, Dempsey's, LaMotta's and Holyfields of the world. Those guys had and have phenomenal spirit and their fights provide me with such a rush of energy and inspiration that I don't receive from watching Mayweather safely outclass someone.
I think boxing needs more Gatti's if it wants to get back on top of the heap. I also really think it will happen. Hell, if Samuel Peter gets his **** together and really focuses, he can be one of the biggest things ever. The guy has the attributes to be a tremendously crowd pleasing heavyweight star.
I'm telling you, Sam Peter with his **** together would be a force for anyone to fight. With every fight, he's becoming more and more a student of boxing. Just wait, when his brain catches up with his body and he fulfills his natural potential, he will be big news everywhere.
Keep in mind how young and inexperienced he is, yet how quickly he is improving. That's your future star right there. When he beats Wladimir in a rematch, boxing will really start going places.Last edited by Kid Achilles; 08-15-2007, 02:17 PM.Comment

Alot of what you said is all opinion. If you plan on debating you can bring your own opinion to the table. That is practically a DQ.Boxing will always trump MMA. Let me ask you something...are you threatened by WWE and other pro wrestling? No? Are you threatened by MMA? No? Then why do you hate on one and not the other. I'm going to assume you feel threatened by MMA so you feel the need to bash it as much as you can in hopes that the blind sheep will read your post and agree with you. Please tell me I am wrong.
Terrible post on your behalf.Comment

Hey man I don't hate on anything, but I know what I like and I know what sport brings in the money and has the bigger fanbase. There's a reason MMA guys are making only six figure salories and top boxers make millions.
It's a FACT that boxing is bigger than MMA currently.
It's my OPINION that this will always be so.
See, I'm rather good at this seperating fact from opinion thing. Thanks for your concern, but I know what I prefer and why, and I know how to count.Comment

2007 has been a huge year in boxing and its only augest.
we still have tons of big fights being scheduled for this year and there are still many possibly fights that could take place within the last month or two of the year.
so far we've seen great fights with big names and i cant wait to see how the rest of the year unfolds as far as who fights who...and of course...who wins.
Notable fights (so far) for me (just my opinion of fights i thought were good:
De La Hoya/Mayweather
Miranda/Pavlik
Cotto/Judah
Morales/Diaz
Miranda/Green
hopkins/wright
williams/margarito (a true toe to toe war...was very exciting)
berrea/marquez
diaz/frietas.
The Ko of Emmanuel Nwodo (by Darnell wilson...thats my vote for KO of the year)
so its been on great year and i would NOT be unhappy at all if today was dec. 31 and the end of this year. its been action packed thus far and we still have some great fights coming up like:
hatton/mayweather
cotto/mosely
taylor/pavlik
pacman/barrera
jones/trinidad
and the possiblity of even more great fights...im sure im missing a few.
We havent had too many terrible fights this year (with the exception of):
Andre Dirrel/Curtis Stevens (yawner like you dont even know)
Klitschko/Brewster II (i dont care what anyone says brewster was getting shut out and it wasnt very exciting)
taylor/spinks (another yawner like you dont even know)
so if you missed those fights...be happy you did.
but we also seen 2 fighters (arutro gatti + Erik morales) retire. im just glad i was able to see them fight their last fights. true warriors for sure...especially gatti.
and sadly we seen the death of diego corrales (RIP) just 2 days after one of the most highly anticipated (highest PPV selling) fight since tyson/holyfield.
that was definately one of the saddest moments of the yea.r
but overall its been awesome.Comment

Listen, I'm a boxing fan through and through but I will say MMA is here to stay. The reason I say that is because they finally found out a way to market it and make it mainstream.
The argument that boxing has been "dead" has been going on for over 100 years. People have been wanting to abolish the sport because of it's brutality and when there's a lack of a "super star" they say it's dead.
Boxing will always be here, no matter what. Unless we as a human species, manage to suppress our basic and fundamental instincts, boxing will live on forever.Comment
