Like I said in the column Yogi, I could come up with different lists using all different fights and have a good case for all. Lot's of great fights.

Yep, lots of great fights over that span, Cliff, for sure, and the article did appeal to me because that 30 span is basically covering the time I've spent as a boxing fan, and I'm very thankful that I got to watch so many wonderful fights from back then til now live and in the moment.

No sweat on this little discussion/disagreement because we obviously aren't watching the same thing with the same set of eyes, and while I have a clear preference to what I viewed as the better between the two fights/rounds, that's only my personal opinion and one that I'm very much comfortable with.

      Take care.

I've been watching since 2005 and I've yet to see a fight better than Corralles V Castillo.
        Cool, dude

I've been watching boxing since 1984, I was 7. I haven't seen many better that CC1, but if you're interested in a couple that are on par, if not better, check out Gatti - Ward I, II, III. Look at anything to do with Hearns, Leonard, Duran and Hagler scrapping each other. The Somsak Sithchatchawal - Monshipour fight was good, Rid**** Bowe - Tyson, Tyson - Holyfield scraps. Stevie Cruz - Barry McGuigan - was good. All contemporary, but all good.

            Mexican glory

I was going to flip if you didn't mention Vasquez-Marquez II in your column. The morning after I watched Barrera-Morales I and had a hard time comparing the two fights. Barrera-Morales I was a brilliant war which showcased their chins as much as anything, but Vasquez-Marquez II was a classic between 2 top fighters in their prime. I'm not sure Barrera or Morales had peaked yet when they first fought. Which was the better Mexican showdown?

P.S. Cliff, has Sithchatchawal sent you a thank you card yet? Thanks again for turning everyone on to the FOTY last year.

YouTube has this one up on their site if anyone's interested, and as Cliff alludes to, that great fight there is most definately worth taking the time to watch it.

JT$...thanks for remembering which US press guy first started that bandwagon. I wrote about it for months before some more notable writers started playing it up. I've never said much to that affect, but it's true. Hell, I wrote it up the weekend it happened. Not that I really minded; without the more established voices getting on board, that fight might not have been recognized.

And yes, go see Ramirez-Rosario on YouTube. FOTY 1984 FOR A REASON.
