Let's quit bringing race and or ethnicity into the subject. I have plenty admiration and respect for fighters like Chavez sr, Sal Sanchez, Duran, Arguello, Gavilan ,Trinidad, Rivera..Benitez etc...
There's no reason to HATE on latin fighters.
That being said - Chavez jr needs to start challenging himself by fighting better opposition and enough with fighting cab drivers. Age? has nothing to do with it. Examples: Wilfred Benitez won his first Title at 17... Floyd Patterson won the WORLD Title at 21.. Tyson at 21, Vargas at 21, DeLahoya won two titles in two different divisions at 21 etc etc Those guys didn't ruin their careers by winning titles at an early age. Vargas ruined his career by taking on elite champions one after the other without taking tune up fights.
But anyway, Age is not the case here and neither is him not fighting for titles. He can't fight for titles because quite frankly he doesn't look ready. Why?? He's not fighting decent enough good opponents to get him there.
Chavez jr needs to be tested and challenged every once in awhlie.
Chavez jr has been a professional now for two years going on three.
For his own good, he needs to raise the level on the quality of oppostion he's fighting. Start fighting ex champs or up and coming prospects. There is where he will find the experience and the stripes he needs.
Bums and Cab drivers are only good at first to get self confidence and some self recognition. He should be fighting guys like Alfonso Gomez, Pauli Malinaggi, Teddy Reid, Eduardo Snachez, and then Carlos Baldomir in the end before taking on the Big guys on top. It only took Paul Malignaggi 18 fights before he hit his first title fight and it only took Cotto 13 fights before his...Chavez jr already fought 33 guys and he's still not even ready. I don't blame Chavez jr..I blame his corner.Comment

great post man. age has nothing to do with it. so many fighters turn pro at a young age. he has 33 wins. its time to step up. its not about how many wins its bout quality wins. i can build up my career by fighting bums and look good doing it. but what happens if i build my career up so much like jr and fight someone worth fighting and get blitzed in a couple of rounds. those wins before that dont mean ****Let's quit bringing race and or ethnicity into the subject. Exactly... Prince Naseem Hamed sounds familiar? Prince might've had better opposition than Chavez jr but my point is Prince wasn't ready for the likes of Barrera. It's happend to Prince and plenty other boxers out there. They try to build up their record and then when it comes down to fighting a real opponent...boom. Ray Leonard doesn't have a large impressive record but he fought the best and his resume' speaks for itself. My point is, records only look good with credible good opponents attached to them.great post man. age has nothing to do with it. so many fighters turn pro at a young age. he has 33 wins. its time to step up. its not about how many wins its bout quality wins. i can build up my career by fighting bums and look good doing it. but what happens if i build my career up so much like jr and fight someone worth fighting and get blitzed in a couple of rounds. those wins before that dont mean ****Comment
