Would showing highlights on SportsCenter and other programs help boxing?

We live in a SportsCenter world now. If boxing, HBO, and Showtime give the rights to SportsCenter and other highlight shows the rights to air boxing highlights, would it help boxing be more mainstream? actually thats ******, of course it will, but the better question is will it bring many new fans to the sport? has this ever been brought up?

for sure without a doubt. they used to show highlights all the time atleast in the big fights

They might still show highlights of the really big fights, not sure though i am usually on these forums after big fights instead of watching sport center

Ugh, I can't stand the way sportscenter, ESPN magazine, Sports Illustrated, etc, hype Football, Baseball, and every other sport to no end and boxing is a 3rd or 4th class citizen. My roomates are obsessed with football and all I am going to hear about for the next 6 months or however long the season is, is about their fantasy teams, favorite teams, players (bleh). Boxing and MMA are so much more compelling than watching some fat thugs throw a ball around a field and bump into eachother. Baseball which I used to be a huge fan of, also is overhyped, but is ok in small doses. Same goes for Basketball. We'll have to wait until Floyd of Oscar fights again so ESPN can jump on their nuts for a couple weeks; until then they will completely ignore boxing.

ESPN and Fox Sports and such would really help it out. Especially for big ko's on instant replay.

I think you answered your own question but it was important to talk about. People/sports fans need to see some exciting highlights on the Sports shows in order to think, "hey, I want to see the rest of that fight too! I wonder if the next fight coming up next week will be that good?"
Once that happens you get a few guys getting together and chipping in to pay for the pay-per-view and they get hooked on the boxing experience.

the whole ppv concept is what really makes boxing not as mainstream more than showing a few highlights on sports center

YES!!!! ive been sayin that forever! of coarse it would be great. Ive seen them do it on occasion, and then when i mention the fight to a non-boxing fan, they sometimes know what im talking about!!!!

                Like for the Holyfield-Savarse

Oh, and they should do like 10 minute segments on good upcoming fights. that would be even better

Oh, I completely agree. I only mentioned it because pay-per-view is here to stay no matter how much I dislike it. Believe me, I hate it.

This ****** J.M Marquez vs R. Juarez pay-per-view is a perfect example of what is wrong with boxing. They need to scrap that piece of crap right now, or go and load it with 6 or 7 meaningful/exciting fights to keep it. lol.

I would complain less about pay-per-view if they were down to 2 or 3 per year, and LOADED with fights that are no-brainers for the good of boxing.
