Would showing highlights on SportsCenter and other programs help boxing?

Ugh, I can't stand the way sportscenter, ESPN magazine, Sports Illustrated, etc, hype Football, Baseball, and every other sport to no end and boxing is a 3rd or 4th class citizen. My roomates are obsessed with football and all I am going to hear about for the next 6 months or however long the season is, is about their fantasy teams, favorite teams, players (bleh). Boxing and MMA are so much more compelling than watching some fat thugs throw a ball around a field and bump into eachother. Baseball which I used to be a huge fan of, also is overhyped, but is ok in small doses. Same goes for Basketball. We'll have to wait until Floyd of Oscar fights again so ESPN can jump on their nuts for a couple weeks; until then they will completely ignore boxing.Comment

it pisses me off that boxing doesn't get the coverage it should on espn. it's all about the rights and this and that with the major labels but it's a damn shame that they don't try and promote more by doing so.
they have no problem showing everything else but when a big fight or a fight with some importance, **** any fight, they don't get it any attention.
it would help boxing tremendously to gain new fans and help keep up the interest if they would show boxing highlights and give boxing news like they do other sports. the drama in boxing is like no other, i haven't a clue why they don't.Comment

Lets just be realistic, the thing that could bring boxing back to the forefront is a dominate HW division, sure we all love boxing and can watch any weight class, but to the casual fan who just wants to see Mike Tyson part 2 or some big knockout machine they are not going to watch the lower weight classes unless its a big fight like PBF and Oscar, we just have to be patient and wait for the HW boom.Comment

"Oh yay! i know oscar he is fighting soon really? oh damn i dont have 50 bucks" To me all these silly payperviews are ruining people from getting into the sport. Like someone said earlier, A non fan sure as hell wont really know who JMM or Rocky Juarez and for a fight of someone that hardly anyone outside of boxing fans knows is on ppv is just insane.
Sure i dont blame the fighters for wanting to make more money for ppv fights but they are helping themselves lose money in the long run.
Ok so say you pay 50 bucks and you dont really watch boxing to much. Like i had a few friends over to watch the DLH-PBF fight... They thought it stunk hard...Now just imagine if they had paid for the fight and not came over to leech it....They would never buy another ppv where as if they saw it without having to pay (a whole weeks spending cash to most people) they might still be wanting to see more. One of my friends said "You actually paid for this fight?" i didnt really know what to tell him but it made me not want to buy another ppv.Comment

it would work as a double edged sword. people would get more exposed to boxing but when people get drawn to boxing, they get repelled by its corruption and snoozers.
when boxing gets its **** together and stops ****ing around with itself, then the people will come. boxing's losing fans not because of a lack of support or exposure. but because there arent enough exciting fights and too much politics.Comment

definitely... espn only hype big names mostly american boxers on their program... they didnt even talk about vasquez vs. marquez fightComment

Not even sure if its HW Tons and i means tons of people know who Oscar Delahoya is.....but guess what he only fights on pay-per-view. So people who dont even really know about boxing but know or have heard about superstars wont ever see them fight.

Very freakin true, PPV is what is ruining the sport, if I remember correctly it started out only the HW's would fight on PPV, now it's every tom, ****, and harry. To think about it if you look at the wrap up after every PPV fight they always talk about PPV buys and how much money it generated. imagine how many fans would flock to boxing if those PPV events were live on HBO, hmph can we blame promoters for this i.e. Don King who started it, I mean for goodness sakes look at Murad Muhammed trying to squeeze every penny out of people to make them pay for a older Roy fighting a little know opponent, what casual fan is going to pay for that, that's the only reason I haven't cancelled Showtime, if you have a subscription then their PPVs are free on their channel.Comment
