The Philippines has been around longer. Had a world champ before Mexico and Pinoy fighters were more prominient than Mexican fighters on the world stage until WBC became a Mexican organization and promoters realized that in U.S. states close to Mexico, Mexican boxers were marketable commodities. Thus boxing died in the P.I. and flourished in Mexico. Pacquiao has brought it back. There are still alot of discrimination in the ring with Pinoy boxers though as evidenced by the way refs have called fights and judges scoring. How many Ko's are going to be called slips? - Amonsot againts Katsidis, Pacquiao againts Barrera, Mayol againts Solis; or deducted points for holding twice in the whole fight - Z Gorres vs. Montiel. Legal Blows being called low - Bautista vs. Medina. Refs warning Pinoys and not the opposition for doing the same thing. Lopsided commentary - calling landed punches for only one fighter not the pinoy and not calling refs and judges on bad calls againts pinoys. Boxing still has a lot to do to welcome Pinoys. Right now Pinoys need KOs no decisions. Opponents need all the help they can get.

you mean back then when there was nothing but white people fighting each other, and what makes you so sure the phillipines has been there longer then Mexico, and WHAT THE **** does the US have to do with Mexico producing great fighters. I still havent seen a boxer similar to Pacquiao. The WBC has nothing to do with Mexico's fighters you moron, if the phillipines produced any elite fighters they would be knocking people out left and right, but they havent, why? cause the ****ing suck but youll never get that **** through your head once all your prospect are exposed, you will remember me, just rely on pacquiao and sit your ass down. The Philippines has been around longer. You are a Moron, the U.S. has EVERYTHING to do with Mexico producing great fighters. BOXING IS A BUSINESS..... If nobody paid to watch Ceasar Chavez Sr., promoters would've just ignored his ass and given the shot to somebody that could make em money. Fortunately for Chavez, Mexico is right across the border and Mexicans were abundant enough in the U.S. to support Chavez and make him and his promoters rich people. What would've been of Ceasar Chavez if promoters did not see $$$$ in him? I don't think he would've been as great. If Pacquiao was never a replacement for Ledwaba, Morales and Barrera would've been better of same as De Leon, Gonzales and the rest of the Mexicans fighting on saturday. The Flipside to this is Gerry Penalosa who is getting his licks in way past his prime, he has gotten robbed so many times its time he get his due in the U.S. spotlight. Win or loose Gerry is gonna show that he should've been on the same stage as Mexicans long time ago.you mean back then when there was nothing but white people fighting each other, and what makes you so sure the phillipines has been there longer then Mexico, and WHAT THE **** does the US have to do with Mexico producing great fighters. with regards as to who have been there longer prominently, filipinos have proofs by being world champs way before mexico produced one. this doesn't mean mexico was not into boxing at that time, but we're talking about prominence and being recognized world class, so in this particular case, philippines > mexico. and where's your proof to claim otherwise?
