Why in the world would Holyfield have even a chance?

I'm not accusing you of implying this, but it could be gleaned from your post. And that's the way half the people on the board think.

What if there were five great Russian HWs and no American ever stood a chance with any of them in the ring. Couldn't the division still be great then?
Good point, it would. If that happens the eastern warriors have proven better fighters. Still people like the thought of a change because: Too much love or despise for the current champions (either you love them or you don't care) I'm not sure why but this seems the case here. Secondly and most important, this eastern generation did not defeat the last one, they succeded them. The Tyson, Lewis, Holyfields, (Toneys and Morrisons ). They kinda wandered way lol and they succeded them. The quality of competition is low. Shannon Briggs was just another meat in Lewis way and after Lewis retired, he was champion, among other strange stuff. Thirdly as i already said, people like the underdog. The mere thought of exposing someone (note i didn't say there's anything to be exposed, but can't say there is not either) excites fans. Specially westerns.

There is no linear champion right now!!!!!

Lennox Lewis was the last and no one beat him!

Vitali did very well but lost !

When Vitali did become a champ he did nothing to make himself into the linear champion .
