I agree on all points. This guy may be a can, but Sultan can shoot some good, fast, hard combos.

      - Do I really need to comment here? This is Ruiz! and it's Holyfield 7 years ago.

2002 - He beats Rahman via a head butt
      - Again, Rahman. I'll save the comments
Later that year he loses to Byrd. (Who is, please note, a southpaw)
      - Yes he was injured. I don't think the outcome would have been any different.

2003 - TKO loss to Toney. Besides Holyfield, Toney has not beaten a single top HW.

2004 - Loss to old Larry Donald

2006 and on, Evander beats - Jeremy Bates, Vinny Maddalone (has anyone ever heard of these guys???), Fres Oquendo, and another senior citizen Lou Savarese

How can anyone give him a chance against a valid linear champion.
Yes linear.. he beat the guy (Briggs), who beat the guy (Lyakhovich), who beat the guy (Brewster), who beat the guy (Wlad), who beat the guy (Byrd), who beat the guy (Vitali) for the title?

Come to think of it.. there is a curse around the WBO belt.. people can't hang on to it for more than a fight (or two) LOL I guess this curse is Evander's only chance
I'll start shooting holes. First of all, Holyfield deserved to win 2 of the 3 Ruiz fights if you've actually seen and scored them. Next, he got outboxed by Byrd with a torn rotator cuff. You know, the same injury Vitali suffered against Byrd, and ****ing QUIT. There's no shame in losing to Toney considering they are both small heavyweights and Toney is a sick counter puncher who tore him up. The Donald loss looked to have ended things, but the man is completely healed now and appears rejuvenated. I don't know who he can beat, but he DOES have a chance. As good a chance as any in this joke of a division. It is because the division is so bad that he has a chance.

I am not a big Holyfield fan but some of those bouts he was injured. In his last 2 fights (since his shoulder was operated on and healed) he has looked like a different fighter. And Vlad's glass chin is always suspect for a KO.

This fight will represent the down of the american (western) fighter and the raise of the eastern european (asian) fighter. It will help boxing in the long term because people (specially americans) like the underdog. One day, a unknown kid who noone will give a **** for will have a chance to fight for the belts. If, by work of God he turns out the HW Mayweather, someone western, but good like Klitschko, with a chin (Lewis anyone?) or even better, a smaller guy (so he really is the underdog) fights his way, single handed, to HW glory... People will go crazy and the HW division will better than the WW is today.

Only if a smaller American HW wins the title will the division be good?

I'm not accusing you of implying this, but it could be gleaned from your post. And that's the way half the people on the board think.

What if there were five great Russian HWs and no American ever stood a chance with any of them in the ring. Couldn't the division still be great then?

boxing is not that popular in America because there aren't many American great fighters right now, and there are a lot of European fighters, in Europe boxing is really popular. you dont NEED an American boxer for a division to be popular.

Sultan in any other era would be considered a legit tomato can. And this is the same guy that got a draw with RAY ****ING AUSTIN WTF?!?!?

                  Holyfield will win.
