Pardon my ignorance to the financial aspect of boxing, but why couldn't Hatton win a purse that big? Again, I know nothing of how these contracts work but my logic is that unlike DeLaHoya, Hatton is undefeated as is Mayweather, and this fight should and most likely will generate more money than DLH vs. PBF so......can anyone follow that logic?
cool so Mayweather and dlh's purse was likely to be smaller that some fight shown on regular HBO?
No, it was likely bigger. The reason is because HBO PPV will fork out more guaranteed money to the promoter of name (GBP in this case) for a fight worthy of PPV than for one that should go on HBO Championship Boxing. The money they gave the promoter, GBP, not including any percentages, would add to the total purse of the fighters since the those are guaranteed TV rights.

Records don't have anything to do with a fighter's following. DLH has 5 loses and he would generate more PPV buys and more interest than any three undefeated fighters put together. Also, Gatti has 9 losses but he still filled every seat in Atlantic City when he fought.
People put too much stock in what a fighter's record is. It only matters if he has a steady following and how much those followers are willing to pay out of their pocket to watch their fighter in the ring. That's what determines how much they can earn in a fight. It's a good incentive to get fighters to have a fan-friendly style.
Take B-Hop, for instance. I'll never spend a dime to watch this guy fight as long as I live. Why? Because I think he's boring and I do not like his style. Even if he got in the ring with W. Klit and I knew for sure he was going to get his clock cleaned, I still wouldn't give him a penny.
If you honestly think Hatton is getting $16 million for this fight, you're an idiot. This is not a bigger fighter than Mayweather-DLH where the fighters were guaranteed about $35 million combined before any incentives kicked in. And Mayweather would have to be making at least $25 million if Hatton is getting $16 million. The numbers are just way too high...
And regarding leaving the site, I'll take that bet if Anorak will leave the site if Mayweather wins...
It's official, $iN and company talked complete **** for the past month. A ducking never took place.
The ducking occurred for 3 years. Hatton was waiting for Mayweather to get old like he did Tszyu. But since Mayweather threatened retirement, he's rolling the dice and coming out of hiding because he'll miss the big payday if he waits any longer...

Anorak isn't a Hatton fan and has already predicted a Mayweather win, so there's little chance of that.

Just give the guy a little credit, he waited for just the right moment. The first two HBO fights were partial successes, but he finished his contract in style against Castillo and set up this bout perfectly. There's nothing to complain about. I don't expect him to win, but there's not a thing in the world to criticize Ricky Hatton for right now. You're like a plaster manufacturer now, you have no more product. You'll have to adapt.
