Why Are People Talking Like Taylor Has A Chance?

he doesnt. not against kelly pavlik.

the fight wasnt even signed yet and taylor already started making excuses saying he cant make 160 anymore, he wants it to be at a catchweight of 166 (which is ****ing ridiculous), he wants a rematch clause to take place at 168. hes making excuses like hes ready to lose. at the very worst, taylor will be too drained to put up a real fight and pavlik stops him.

look at their recent fights: pavlik dissected and destroyed some fringe contenders and edison miranda (the guy who was thought to be unstoppable). taylor has not had an impressive win in recent memory, period.
hopkins 1: taylor got a gift decision.
hopkins 2: taylor didnt show any improvement.
winky: taylor was pressured to the ropes by the feather fisted wright.
ouma: expecting a quick knockout, taylor went the distance in yet another fight where he was pressured on the defense by a smaller light-fisted fighter.
spinks: i dont really need to elaborate.

taylor has nothing that can get him past pavlik. taylor doesnt move for ****, doesnt move his head, doesnt let his hands go, doesnt fight on the inside, and doesnt do anything beyond throwing the jab and occasionally throwing a right hand to establish dominance. it has been shown in the ouma and winky fights that taylor can get backed up by a light breeze, and when hes on the ropes, he doesnt know what to do beyond covering up. all taylor has is his athleticism, which he has not be able or willing to utilize. taylor's not a smart fighter, and when he wont listen to emmanuel steward, one of the smartest trainers in boxing, hes got nothing to offer. manny was screaming in his face to let his hands go and taylor didnt do a goddamn thing.

pavlik's weaknesses are his lack of speed, foot movement, head movement, and mediocre defense. and taylor has never shown any ability to take advantage of an opponents weakness. the miranda fight answered a lot of questions about pavlik.
    he can take a punch.
    he can keep going.
    he can hit like hell.
    hes got heart.
he plans his work and works his plan.
    he can throw excellent combinations.
he doesnt need to rely on his power.
he can fight on the inside as well as the outside.
above all else, he CAN beat taylor.

i've already discussed taylor's weaknesses. his strengths (such as they are):
    hes got a long jab.
he can take a punch (from hopkins, ouma, and winky anyway).
    hes got good stamina.
    hes very athletic.
he can fight on the outside.
and he CAN win big fights, just not very well.

pavliks bigger and hits harder, so taylor cant stand and trade.
pavlik fights better on the outside, so taylor cant rely on his jab and box (he cant box for ****, anyway).
pavlik can fight on the inside, so taylor cant tie him up and hope to win on points.
pavlik's biggest strength is his ability to punish you on the ropes, which as shown by ouma and winky, is where taylor is all but helpless.
taylor beat ouma and spinks because his was bigger and stronger, which is not the case with pavlik.
if winky pressured taylor more in their fight, winky would have won.
when pavlik pressures you, he destroys you. and taylor cant fight under pressure.
pavlik has been progressing throughout his career, while taylor has been regressing.
taylor has already admitted that making 160 is hard for him. so hes probly going to be lethargic, slow, and inactive going into the fight. which means he wont be able to move around and box pavlik (as previously stated, taylor cant move and box for ****, anyways).

if pavlik fights taylor the way he fought miranda, taylor will be destroyed. if taylor fights pavlik the way he fought spinks.... and ouma... and winky... taylor will be destroyed.

face it, people. taylors not gonna win this one. boxing will in fact be better off when he loses, that way our MW champion wont be such a joke.

I like you as a poster, but you're in for a ****ing shock.

Taylor is going to punish that overrated Whiteboy.

taylor and winky are the same
they need fighters to come at them or back straight up
anybody that moves side to side well, will make the fight
        boring and uneventful
pavlik will walk straight into a jermain upperct and right hook

for some reason i agree lol and the reason is just this. Jermain Taylor has E. Steward as a trainer who imo is the best trainer n the sport and yet a 28 he is still being called a work n progress. al he can do is hit hard thats it...i see no boxing ability i pick Pavlik n a late fight stoppage

Lol, I dont about all that, but I do think pavlik wins.

I would make taylor maybe a 2 to 1 favorite, maybe even a bit more. The possibility of a Taylor blowout IS there, even thought i think its impossible for Taylor to stop Pavlik.

But i also think theres a possible Pavlik blowout. who knows

The odds are now posted at both 5 dimes and Pinnacle and they both have Kelly as the underdog +120. Now might be the time to make some dough if you are that confident.

i remember the last time people were saying "this guy's gonna destroy pavlik", and pavlik kicked his ass.

whos ass has jermain taylor kicked recently?

I will lean towards pavlik.. But I do think its close.. but Taylor has had too many close contraversial fights that he really doesnt have me convinced he the man at 160.. so I hope Pavlik takes him out of there..
