It is true, but Calzaghe also slaps a lot using the inside of the gloves and even punches that sometimes are similar to karate-punches thrown upside downComment

I love Bernard, but this is a tough, tough fight for him.
Think about it, at this stage Hopkins can't fight for three minutes a round. He looked great against Tarver because Tarver did little to nothing for the whole fight, making it look like Hopkins was doing so much more than he actually was. Also, when he realized he wasn't facing much resistance when he did do something, he took more and more of the initiative and looked dominant.
Against Winky he couldn't do that because Wink was aggressive and throwing, unlike Tarver. However, Hopkins is still great, there's no doubt, and I did think he won a very, very close fight against a top 3 pound-for-pound fighter.
However, Calzaghe will be more active than Winky was, and he will be alot more comfortable at the weight than Winky was, and we all know in boxing these days activity and aggressiveness sways judges alot more than effective ring generalship and defense, Hopkins' specialties.
I would pick Calzaghe by decision because the judges will love his activity, almost no matter how ineffective (see Taylor, Jermain). I think Calzaghe would have some good moments, too, though, so this isn't just a prediction based on punches thrown. And I do think it will be a controversial decision because Hopkins won't be dominated, but he may be a bit overwhelmed by the punch volume. Slaps or not, it looks good and a lot better than covering up or feinting and moving left and right with an occassional lead right hand and hook to the body.Comment
