Hopkins gets the decision because his defense doesn't allow for Joe's handspeed to take over the fight. Hopkins uses the ring generalship that has allowed him to control every fight he has fought against the world's P4P best in the last 10 years (Trinidad, Taylor twice [he lost because he wasn't busy enough, but Taylor didn't do **** for damage], Tarver and now Wright) to keep Calzaghe at bay. Hopkins isn't the next Jeff Lacy in Calzaghe's book... sorry Brits.

Hopkins hasn't even heard the word "combination", there's no way he outlands Calzaghe.

Calzaghe knows Hopkins fights dirty, we obviously saw that in Hopkins last fight when he felt the need to purposely head-butt Winky's eye to try and blind him. Though Hopkins is old, who has calzaghe fought he fights similar to hopkins style? And who has Hopkins fought who fights fast like Calzaghe's style? Have either one of these boxers fought any fighters with similar qualities?

Joe Calzaghe has never fought anyone near approaching the sort of ring intelligence of that of a Bernard Hopkins.

Got to give Calzaghe a good chance though.

He has the intangibles to pull it off.


I have a hard time betting against Hopkins, however.

He may not be able to keep up with Joe's output - but he's shown in his last two fights he's willing to work, work, work as needed.

And I'm very confident Bernard's shot selection and overall Boxing "pure blood" sophistication could potentially outclass Mr. Calzaghe.


Joe can go in there and throw wild on the guys he's faced..

But I wouldn't recommend that against Bernard Hopkins.
