i seen him fight byron mitchell and the ref stopped mitchell when he threw the last punch. i think he dropped calzaghe in that round too. he was taking alot of punishment but it looked like he had chin and was trying to use the lamon brewster/homer simpson style of fighting where the other guy connects every time but punches himself out in the process. anyway i thought it was ended way to early. calzaghe looked like a good quick lefty,he seemed like a volume puncher and a pressure fighter, but he doesn't seem like that big of a star, he's got the worthless wbo belt and if i were tarver or hopkins i would see no point in fighting him. johnson or lacy would be good opponents for him.

Decent fighter w/ better then average hand speed and packs a punch....Controls a division where NOBODY is....So he makes the most noise and he is the star of 168.......Jeff Lacy enters, Calzaghe is no more...True Story....You wont hear much of him now that Lacy owns that division

oh hell yeah, calzaghe ain't got nuthin on Lacy. It's gonna be NO QUESTION when they meet soon. Joe really doesn't stand a chance. Jeff Lacy owns the super middle.

I strongly disagree. If Calzaghe had fought the big names he would surely have, if not beat them, given them the fight of their careers.
Calzaghe is 37 - 0 - 0 (30) and has beaten Chris Eubank ( and beat him up too ), Robin Reid, Mitchell, Charles Breawer, Omar Sheika, Richie Woodall and he did Mario Veitin 90 seconds.
True, these are mostly second tier contenders but it is how he has delt with them that is so impressive.
Mitchell got a luckly punch and knocked him down! Big deal. Calzaghe has a solid chin and i would pick him against Hopkins because of the style. Hopkins would have fits with a big powerful and very quick southpaw and Calzaghe has been calling him out for years now only to be denied by Hop!
If given the chance, Joe Calzaghe can beat any top flight fighter in or around his weight.

Lacy is a powerhouse man, Noway calzaghe stands a chance....
I dont take ANYTHING away from Calzaghe, I know he has a pretty solid chin, hits like a bull and is pretty fast in the hands, but Lacy would massacre him.
That is my opinion....Calzaghe is a good fighter, Lacy is a great one....
Lacy in under 4 if it ever happened.
Restless-On a side note, Jesus christ Lacy is a big man for 168....

There's a UK boxing fan who will set you straight named eleivel.
Seriously, I've had the same discussions with him. Calzaghe fans don't see the Mitchell spectacle the same way any objective observer would. He has been protected, no doubt, but can be let off the hook because the division is so barren. Now, if he hides from Lacy, which it looks like he might be doing (there's a link on the first page here somewhere on Non Stop Boxing), and still doesn't get the light heavyweight opponents he's seeking, I'll be a bit harder on the guy.

Im not being hard and will respect anyones opinion as long as they respect mine, but lacy is just that damn of a better fighter then Calzaghe.

hes only 5'9
joes got 2 and a half inches on him
hopkins has 4 inches
tarver has 5 and a half inches
even tito beats him by 2in
just comparen him to some the names that have been thrown out there
hes sort of like a supermiddle weight Tyson
hes short but built for power

Bull****, i'm no Calzaghe fan, infact i hated him at one point but the man is without doubt the best super middle in the world.
He'd beat that joke Tarver, Tarver is pound4pound ranked for beating an over the hill fighter. Williams did the same to tyson and is he pound4pound ranked?? NO becuase his passport raises doubt(it says UK on it)
Johnson wouldnt last 2 rounds with Calzaghe. so i wont bother with that subject.
And the pound4pound number 1 would get beat by Calzaghe! Thats why he ducked him, maybe Nard should be step out of that baron division and pick on someone bigger than him.
I'll bet you 5k on every fight i mention, Calzaghe may lack in the skills department but his hand speed, work rate, heart and power make up for it!!
