I mean come on he may have clinched intentionally a few times but most fighterz do. And watch the fight Marg was guilty of the same thing. He had Williams arm pinned down several times in that fight. It was like he would hit you then hug Hatton style. Plus he stayed in there almost the whole fight give him some credit.

I do give him credit. I knew he could beat Margarito but, the fights I have seen of Williams, I haven't seen him intentionally clinch like he did for this fight.

For all who said Margarito was doing most of the huggin. Rewatch the fight. Paul would get his punches of and then clinch. Most of the clinching was done the first 6 rounds

but lets face it if you where hurt will you clinch e****alyl i you where hurt and tired? and dont give me some crappy answer that i will hit harder or something.

clinching is annoying to watch but it effective startgey to win and get time to rest and recover. but before a person clinchs the other guy should have puinsh him with bodyshots as much and hard as he cant.

Margarito still would have lost the fight. It doesn't even matter. Some guys use it to their strategy. Paul could throw 5 or 10 unaswered shots and when Margarito tried to come in, tie him up. Margarito could have done more if he wanted to keep his belt. He should have been trying to throw more punches since Margarito believes he landed more punches than Williams.

i saw him leaning into him after throwing a big shot closing off the space not allowing Margarito to throw those looping haymakers, which was smart, he did clinch a little in the middle rounds when he looked like he got a little winded, but after he was warned in the corner the majority was Margarito locking his arm under his, suprisingly almost getting PWill a point deduction.

Williams showed more savvy than Marg last night flat out. He tried to smother Marg's punches as much as he could. And outworked him in the 12th. He was the better man last night. And he admitted to Marg stunning him and gave him credit. All while all Marg could do is cry.

Williams isn't that bad at holding. He's not like a Lennox Lewis or John Ruiz.

exactly! that's something I don't think younger boxers do, if the ref hasn't broken yall up that means "fight to get out" ,whatever happend to refs saying that anyway? But BHop is a perfect example he throws shots to the body when he's clinched up, you never see him just sitting there, that is how you gradually wear your opponent down like he did to Taylor in their first fight and Trinidad, you could see Tito was shocked and got a little pissed that Bhop was throwing shots when they where locked up, like he was suppose to chill out and wait for the ref to break them up.

He has the skills, he's faster, and a good technical boxer. But for most of the fight he average 6 hugs (tie ups) per round. The referee warned him later in the fight but, even after a warning, no penalty was given to Williams for the continued holding. Ive yet to see a recent fight were a fighter gets penalized for holding. Add Williams to the Hatton, Ruiz, and Zahir Raheem club. It's easier to win a fight when you let your punches go and 90% of your defense is to tie up the other fighter and neutralize him completely
Did you see what Cotto did to zab judah when he hugged him? He beat the ever living **** out of judah even when judah was hugging him, the elite soldiers can deal with huggers. Thats why when judah looked at the ref when cotto countered judah when judah was hugging. The ref said you're holding judah so stop looking at me with those puppy eyes. The elites can deal with holders like williams, thats why if williams holds on cotto, that guys getting dropped.

If anybody watched Friday Night Fights, this is exactly what Ray " BOOM BOOM " Mancini was upset about. He was blasting todays fighters, saying they are less skilled than fighters back in the day because instead of inside fighting, they prefer to wrap up. It's looking no better than those dry humpers in MMA.
