This will make him a tougher cookie later on. Nothing better for a young fighter than facing adversity from a legit tough guy and digging deep to pull it out.. add to the fact that this is Paul's first major win and you can tell he's something special. Despite whatever many detractors might think, though I was rooting for Williams and was all over him after I saw his style against Sharmba, for a minute there I thought I was going to see this fight end in Chavez/Taylor fashion. Paul was initiating holds after many of those punches Margarito threw to the body and then started holding more frequently when Margarito was going upstairs after catching Willams' rhythm, but he has an excellent poker face so you have to look at his body language and tactics to see that the body punches were having a terrible effect on Paul.
The Punisher needs a few more fights though, I put him just below Mayweather and Mosely. He has to work on his inside fighting and jab with more of a purpose to do damage than merely as a way to rhythm his way into money punches. I was sitting in disbelief watching Paul do what he did with putting just a snap on his jabs. Nothing else. I don't think it's a case of him not being able to hit it's just that he doesn't use ANY sit down power in that regard when he should. That way you know...you might not have to throw a kazillion punches to win a fight. That was a lot of ****ing mileage. My jaw dropped when I saw the final punched stats and fell through the floor when Lampley stated compubox wasn't doing Williams' justice. It almost wasn't enough. Margarito started to get more in sync with his jabbing rhythm and hit him more later in the fight, so others who are faster might be able to exploit this.
This was my first time seeing Margarito fight, and I was impressed. He had everything against him and the fight still could've went to a draw if he kept the damage level up. For all of you praising Williams workrate, though it is ridiculously impressive remember judges can be swayed by who is doing damage and for how long.
Only knock I have on Margarito is the sore loser mentality. You can't win a fight smiling when a guy hits you and blocking punches. You have to throw more.
