Boston proves a point Jake Donovan and I have made; lots of fights can be called FOTY because their is a slim margin. No blow away as of yet. Methinks Kess-Cal may wind up being it just because it happens end of the year. LOL

Was Williams Vs Margarito Fight Of The Year?

FOTY maybe ,
I had the fight 115-113. Margarito was landing some great body shots most of the night, and for a while it looked (to me) that he was going to catch up to Williams. So to me is was a chess match. Williams was out hustling Margarito early, but Margarito was landing what looked like the harder shots in the middle of the fight. Williams was starting to slow down enough where I thought Margarito was going to take over, but in the 9th Williams put in a good round to stop Margarito's momentum. Margarito started making a charge again and Williams came back with a strong 12th. IMO a great fight.

FOTY candidates need to be competitive. This fight was not competitive. Margarito lost the moment Williams through his first jab.
Williams was in absolute control of the fight 95% of ever round. Margarito has spot he did well with 2-3 punch combos, followed by Williams immediate seizure of control.
When Margarito hit him hard, he came back at him and asserted his dominance. Margarito only had one round that he really won decisively; Paul Williams was resting.
Margarito did get in some good body shots, but they never seemed to effect Williams much past the initial pain he experienced. They didn't stop his upper body movement. They didn't weaken his legs. They didn't make him cover up.
Simply put, Margarito was dominated.
