    Taylor-Pavlik Rematch Clause For 168

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas - Jermain Taylor and Kelly Pavlik are close to a deal to put their undefeated records on the line in a fight for Taylor's middleweight boxing championship.

A person close to the negotiations said on Friday nothing has been signed, but HBO and Harrah's Entertainment have been told the fight will happen. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because an official announcement has not been made. The fight is expected to take place on Sept. 29 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. [details]

After a string of hard fights against veterans, I don't mind Taylor taking a couple breather fights. But if he is going to fight guys deliberately smaller than himself whom he should have had a vast power and speed advantage over, he better take care of business in the ring or else he is opening himself up to criticism. The Spinks fight cost Taylor a big fight against Calzaghe.

A victory over Pavlik, even if it's a hard fought decision, will put Taylor back in line for the big money fight he wants against Calzaghe, if he wins his next fight.

I'm so glad that Taylor is stepping up in competition and fighting Pavlik. I believe that Jermain is one of the most overrated boxers in the world today (along with Ricky Hatton) and I fully expect Pavlik to administer a world class beating come September 29th. I mean......the best that Taylor has looked was his fight against Wright and that turned out to be the lone blemish on his record. My prediction......Pavlik by KO in the 9th.

I think its just the fight Taylor needs.

I dont care if he wins or loses.

I think this fight wakes him up either way....cause he cant hide from Pavlik...and hes going to eat some hard shots.

              He gets exposure either way...

Either as the top dog he's always said he was

Or as a Chinny product of promoters and HBO.

I've watched him fight for a long long time.....and I think he's a bit of both.

I cant wait to see which one shows up for KellyPavs

Obviously by my avatar I'm no fan of Taylor's but I still respect the guy, as I do all fighters. I think this Pavlik fight is exactly what Taylor needs, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping he'd get KTFO simply because he's the only fighter in history who I ever actually fell asleep watching (vs. Spinks). However I hope that it snaps his ass back to reality as he seems entirely too complacent in his position as Champion.

As for the rematch clause, it appears it's becoming harder and harder for Taylor to hold steady at 160lbs. Which I can't help but also think is due to a lack of commitment. Hell Hopkins held weight at 160 for his entire career and into his 40's. If a 40 year old can do it, Taylor could too. I think perhaps he's banking on Calzaghe to beat Kessler. Then win or lose in the rematch, he'll be at the exact weight he needs to be at to face Calzaghe.

That doesnt make any sense. Just because Hopkins walked around at his game weight the majority of his career doesnt mean that he is more commited than Taylor. All people are not the same. Genetics play a big role in weight management. To say that if Hopkins can do it then Taylor could too, is wrong.
