Insofar as being a spectator, I watched FNF regularly and watched all the Tyson and Holyfield fights at my uncle's house(he had hbo and ppv).
so mine is more embarssing because i got hooked on boxing by watch an anime called Ippo.

THe nice thing about this anime is that Ippo invovled from a kid who got bullied in school to a world champion and the people around him invovle aswell as his rival call Miyata who is a counter puncher. After there wasnt any volume of manga to read I watched my first boxing match was Gatti vs Ward because i was getting good review and my first boxing documentary i was about Jesus Chavez and his trip til he got a title shot.

My first thread on boxing scene was on Jesus Chavez documentary I dont remeber but it was long time ago and the vid is not there anymore.

I learned the boxing is not only about power and steghth but also it is about the mind and disipline and if you want to do anything or beat anyone you could beat anyone even if he was Tyson it just need daily determination and training as well as courage heart and mind to do so.

Well I'm of Puerto Rican decent so I can't remember a time in which fighters and fights weren't discussed amongst my family.

You cant really say that. Its like saying a cheetah is the most atheletic large cat. However Leopards, Tigers and Lions have all evolved to specific enviormental needs.

Same with athletes they have evolved there bodies to fit specific sporting needs.

I think ESPN or Sports Illustrated had an article which they compared different things across sports. I.E. power, stamina, hand eye cordination...etc.

my friends dad when i was a kid was a huge boxing fan and when they had any big fights on TV he'd throw a party and have the whole block over at his house. that got me into boxing watching SRL, Duran, Hearns, Hagler, during the early 80's but i was a bit young then.

when i became a real fan on my own, i was really big on julian jackson, terry norris, and gerald mcclellan. but what really solidified it for me was watching two separate fighters that had me enamored with the sport , bernard hopkins and johnny tapia. for some reason i agreed with how they fought and i respected their work ethic, it's what got me into the gym. but that's how i got started, it really didn't take off til i moved to vegas though, since then i've been a DIEHARD fan to the fullest, always will.

i think boxing should be in the public schools, it teaches great discipline, focus, determination, respect, good for your health, and how to deal with adversity. everything that one learns in boxing can be applied to positiveness in everday life, improving ones health mentally, physically, and spiritually. i can't say enough about the good stuff in this great sport, only sad thing is that as much good there is, there is bad too....................but god i love boxing. if there wasn't any boxing i'd be one bitter unit...................

It was in 1996 when I got semi interested in boxing and in 1998 when I saw my first pro fight live, back in Ukraine.
