why did winky wright duck antonio margarito?

arum made him a 4 million offer to fight the tijuana bad ass antonio margarito and wright turned it down. did winky fear margarito just like mayweather does to this day? winky would have made as much as he made to fight taylor. why did winky duck the tijuana tornado?

lol Winky would pick off every shot. Too wide and too slow for one of the best defensive fighters in the sport.

I realize this is just the internet, so attempting to take the tone of this thread with a grain of salt...

Winky priced himself out of the fight, plain and simple. Arum was offering Floyd $8 million for the fight. When Floyd balked, Wink stepped in, but wanting the same money. Arum offered $4-5 million, Wink said no, he wanted the same money that was on the table for Floyd, believing he's as good as Floyd, therefore worth the same loot.

Wink's never had a realistic grasp on his self-worth, but then few fighters do.

For what it's worth, Williams was also offered the fight around the same time - but turned it down after asking (but not being offered) for the same money that Arum had on the table for Wink.

Winky could win that fight in his sleep. Why would he duck him?
Wright is out to prove something for himself and the world, and a victory against Margarito wouldn't be worth much.
After all, Margarito has never been tested and is not well-known in the public eye. Of course, Winky felt like Antonio was a waste of precious time for him, so he demanded serious money to do it.
                I understand Winky's mindset.
                Don't understand Floyds though...

                  Here's an article i found:

It appears that Wright is a bit annoyed that Top Rank offered Floyd Mayweather, Jr. $8 million dollars to face Margarito, and only offered him $4 million. Although Wright can earn between $5-6 million when considering the pay-per-view revenue, he still insists the the offer is too low and he can make the same amount of money by staging a fight in Florida.

"People can say I don't want the fight, and hell no I don't want the fight. If you're going to offer Floyd Mayweather $8 million and offer me $4 million, I don't want the fight. I can make $4 million fighting here in Tampa. Why should I take that fight? I don't need Margarito. He needs me. That's the difference, and that is what his people will have to learn. Offer me $8 million and I'll take the fight," said Wright

Bob Arum on the other hand, said the reason he made a much lower offer to Wright is because Wright would be a much bigger favorite to beat Margarito than Mayweather. Arum feels that if Wright does not take the fight, his name can be added to the list of fighters ducking the tough fighter from Mexico. Arum did not say who Margarito would face if Wright officially rejects the offer, but the list of pay-per-view opponents is growing thin.

"It's the biggest guarantee Winky has received. It's a hell of a deal. If he doesn't take it, he's just another fighter who has Margarito-phobia. If Margarito fights Floyd, it's probably 8-to-5 in Floyd's favor. If he fights Winky, it's probably 4-to-1 in Winky's favor. It would be viewed as much more of a one-sided fight, and that's the reason for the [lower] offer," Arum said.

margarito is the longest reigning champion at welterweight, he has beaten the most top 10 fighters, and he is the most feared man in boxing. you will get respect if you beat margarito because so many fighters are scared to step in the ring with him.
