    Just incredible...

I gotta bring this up again. Simply one of the most beautiful performances ever given in the ring. Pernell Whitaker schooled Greg Haugen to the point where Haugen couldn't even find the will to punch in the second half of the fight. Haugen was a GOOD, tough as nails, blue collar fighter who was an accomplished 2 time champion by the time he fought Pernell. Haugen had a great work ethic in his prime, but there are very few who could hang with a peak Whitaker:

That guy beats any other lightweight in the history of the sport. Bold, a bit biased even...but god damn was he a special fighter or what? Then end of the fight is the best. Pea would stand in front of you and would make you miss 4/5 punch combinations with the slightest movements.

Sweet Pea definitely busted up & humiliated up Haugen. I think Pea is severely underated today. In his prime he was damn near the perfect fighter & even when he wasn't in his prime he was still beating solid fighters.

Whitaker was great, but at Lightweight where he was at his best I think Duran beats him.

I never approved of his flat out frustrate the guy to death style, but there's no argument against the basic fact he's probably the most skilled fighter of all time. You can't name a single fighter who was that good of a pure boxer. You can point to Floyd, but I don't think Floyd was that good in that department.

He was so old school, in the fact that he made guys miss by an inch with full body movement. used as much of his body as he could to avoid punches.

Some of his fights were very entertaining, but many are simply unwatchable in replay form. Live, it was fun to admire the talent. But i rarely watch replays of his boring fihgts

            Floyd Mayweather beats Pernell Whitaker.

He also beats Roberto Duran if he uses the stick and run style.

                Hell Yeah!

One of his best performances. A defensive master. No doubt.

I remember watching Sweet Pea vs Buddy Mcgirt, live at the garden.

And, watching the vid of that fight was even more spectacular.

How would he have faired those days if he had some true KO power?

It certainly was sweet watching him.

Willie Pep was a less refined defensive wizard as well.

That stick and run style might not go over too well with the judges in a Duran match up LOL! He'll need to land punches because Duran sure as hell will be LOL!

                    Way back when...

Just watched Whitaker vs R. Mayweather.

That was a great 12 rounder with knockdowns on both sides.

Wish every fight were that exciting today.
