    How good is Vernon Forrest?

I'm a big carlos baldomir fan. Since he will fight vernon forrest i would like to know how good forrest is, i only saw him 3 times (against mosley, mayorga and quartey) is he realy that good, because a win over mosley at welter is impressive, but in the other 2 fights he didn't impress me.
So i would like too know whats your opinion about him ?

He was very impressive in dismantling Mosley the first time around, and he definately deserved the victory the second time around as well. But that was a while ago, he suffered a bad shoulder injury and is no longer the same. Though he is as old as Baldy, the have aged differantly. Forrest was like bad cheese, and got moldy. Baldomir is like good cheese, and seems to have seemingly gotten better with age :P hehe

BaldomirUD12Forrest I say. With scores of 115-113, 116-112 X2. Or something like that.

      vernon WAS very good

vernon currently IS an average fighter at best

he has not fought well in over 4 years.... he lost to ike quartey and was gifted the decision last year and has followed it up by..... not fighting since.

baldomir wins the last 4 rounds to take a UD, wouldnt be surprised to see forrest quit late in the fight

Wow Baldomir has fans? Anyway, Forrest is shot. He's pretty much finished as a contender. Quartey kicked his ass, but for some reason Forrest got the win. I think Baldomir stops him late.

he was once an excellent fighter with a style that was very hardto deal with.
since the 1st mayorga loss, to me it appeared he got worse each time he got into the ring. he looked terrible in his last fight so i doubt he will be any different this time.

He was a illmatic amatuer...dope pro...beat undefeated SSM twice. Mayorga seemed to have ruin Forrest...as weird as that sounds. Hes never been the same...maybe its personal/physical probs, but hes different.

Baldomir takes this one. Forrest got a gift against Ike.

The thread title should have been..."How good WAS Vernon Forrest?."

Very very good and if that shoulder is strong he will win this fight.

At his best he was definitely in the top 10 p4p, which was probably after defeating Mosley for the second time. I was really high on him as a great fighter. He had a great jab and a good right hand. He obviously knew how to control a guy with great speed that was elite but I pesonally think I overrated him for beating a great fighter. He never really beat anyone before Mosley and he lost to Ricardo Mayorga after. Now Mayorga is no bum but he surely will not be on anybody's elite p4p list. I think he exposed Forrest as somewhat mentally weak. In the first fight he simply couldn't recover from being hurt and in the second fight he couldn't beat Mayorga in a boxing match. His best opponents have been Quartey (who most believe he lost to), Mosley (some guys just have others figured out), Mayorga (lost twice). Outside of these guys we're talking Ray Oliveira, Adrian Stone, and Vince Phillips as the other "names."

First off Mayorga came into his own in those two fights and was a very special/strong/fierce fighter for a short period at welterweight. Forrest unfortunately chose the wrong strategy against him and paid the price, then you got a severe shoulder injury that took a lot of steam out of him. That being said if he can return to health he will beat the snot out of Baldy and the fight with Bazooka was very very close. Forrest landed the cleaner shots in most of the rounds and Bazooka the flashier ones. Forrest needs to impress in this one if he is making a bid for a title shot at 154 cause he aint getting any younger.
