Good post and good question. The reason for the enormous amount of negativity and unfair criticism toward Hatton is a kind of racist jealousy that a white English boxer has done so well - 43-0, 31 KO, Ring Champ at light welterweight. If he was black he would be more respected, like Lewis was.

100 years ago it was the opposite - it was Jack Johnson facing a lot of negativity and unfair criticism, but the world has changed a lot since then.

Comparing to what jack johnson went through and trying to relate it to ricky hatton is beyond comprehension to me on any level.

Well I hope you guys will admit that racism in sports today (in America) works against whites and in favor of blacks. It's not comparable to a century ago because the social conditions are dramatically different. But beneath the hyperbole Joe does have a point.

Ermm no i dont admit that, not in the UK, dont get me started on the racist abuse black players suffer down here, or the fact that there is only one black maanger in the entire english league, its not important. Canada Joe is clearly obssessed with race, and to compare the stick ricky hatton got to the abuse Jack Johnson got is laughable at best, and just irritating and patronising to hear as a black person.

And for you to delcare racism in sports works against white people is just rediculous, white people have equal oppertunities in sport as do black people.

With Joe it's an obsession, I know that.

England and America are different. In America white players are discriminated against heavily, by white fans and managers but especially by by the (less numerous) black fans. Whites here think athletes are supposed to be black.

There's statistics to verify this. In basketball, for instance, white players are drafted on average far lower than their actual productivity.

In boxing it used to be much worse, and the majority of American boxing fans are still uncomfortable with the idea of white boxing champions. Many such people do in fact post here.

I doubt that, statistics can be used to make a point for nearly anything, lol, furthermore you are simply reinforcing my case,

Your example of basketball draft stats could be proof white people assume black people are good at sport because they are black.

              What is that?

              Racism.

It boils down to the same old bull**** about black people being good at sports and nothing else, we are seen as fit to do the physical part, ie. playing, but not the mental part, ie. Managing.

Behave yourself. Black players get **** all abuse in this country, it's only when they go abroad to places like Spain, Italy or eastern Europe.

Ince is the only current black manager but there's been others in the past. Gullit held 2 of the most high profile jobs in the country when he was here and Tigana had the Fulham job for a couple of years.

Yes. I know that. The dynamic is complicated but you're looking at an aspect of it that is not the current topic of discussion. White athletes are still discriminated against, even if underlying that is racism against blacks.

And the basketball thing is not just a spin, it's a certainty. You'd have to be absolutely BLIND to deny that white players have been mistreated and discriminated against.

Use your imagination and picture Wlad Klitschko as a black. He'd be as big as Tyson in America. But many whites and nearly all blacks are unable to deal with the idea of an educated white man being the baddest man on the planet.

lol, what planet are you on?

Chelsea's links with Far right activists in Other countries.

Abuse of black players in the Lower leagues.

England's problem with Nationalist Far right groups, look at their behaviour in world cup 1998, was disgraceful, they nearly got sent home.

The problem is not as bad as in other contries, its still there tho. lol

So thats your lesson for the day.

The point about Klitscho...he is not widely respected in America, not because of his race, but because people see him as a false champion.
The best of a very poor lot...

As for Canada Joe comparing Jack Johnson and Hatton...just further proof of the lunacy of Hatton's fans.
