Ray Mercer "Going Back To Boxing" After getting Demolished in MMA

Ray Mercer tried his hand at mixed martial arts this weekend. The result? He's sticking with boxing.

The former WBO world heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medalist lost to noted street fighter Kimbo Slice in Atlantic City, N.J., this weekend in a fight that lasted just 1:12. Mercer submitted to Slice's guillotine choke hold.

"I walked right into his trap," Mercer said, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. "It was like I put my head in his armpit and said, 'Go ahead, choke me.' From now on, I'm sticking to boxing. I can't get choked out in boxing."

Mercer, 46, hasn't fought in the boxing ring since losing in seven rounds to Shannon Briggs in August 2005 in Hollywood, Fla.

I guess Boxers should stick to the sport boxing and let the fighters do the fighting. Kinda sad but true...

Let it go, brother. He'll still be a 48 year old shell of himself in Boxing too. You are really putting too much on the Kimbo - Mercer fight.

Back to boxing? He's been inactive for two years and most athletic commissions will be hard pressed to sanction a pro boxing fight with 47-year-old man. They were afraid about Jersey even allowing him to fight in the pay-per-view and had to label it an EXHIBITION.

He got crushed in MMA and got crushed in boxing before MMA. Thats why he fought there anyway cuz he couldn't compete any longer as a boxer. What a joke

I don't understand this notion that he lost when he stepped up to ''MMA.'' He lost because he was too pig-headed to learn some basic MMA moves. Kimbo was more or less a boxer himself, he just had the brains to know he could probably only win if he incorporated some MMA into his game.

Yeah he lost in a different sport, but not to an MMA guy [obviously]. It's just a terrible example for those of you who want to use it in a boxing vs MMA discussion.
