I've never punched one so I don't know for sure but they can be 300-400 lbs of pure muscle so I bet they can take a body shot pretty well.

You're starting to underestimate them
There is actually a piece of footage of a Gorilla fight. If you see it you'll probably don't think it's impressive, but if it was a human instead of the bigger male's opponent, he would have been ripped apart. They swing, rip and bite in a fight.
