Yeah, but both fighters had to agree to let the mediocre Cortez referee.....

Cortez did a good job of keeping the action moving, Hatton was getting hit more in the clinches than he was out of the clinches, and every time the action broke it was to Hatton's advantage.

I rewatched the fight and Cortez warned Castillo at the end of the third round, and had already warned both fighters to keep it clean.

It's saddening that people try to find so many excuses. It would be understandable if some of you were finding excuses for a fighter you are a fan of losing, but I don't think many of you are fans of Castillo. You're making excuses as to why a fighter you don't like won! This means you should really take a long look at your life.

Cortez USED to be among the best Refs in teh sport. But I think the moniker got to his head and now he tries to be part of the action, instead of making sure the fighters obey the rules. It's no more evident then when he gives the prefight instructions and ends it by raising his voice and using his cliche 'Remember guys, I'm fair but I'm firm'.
I still think Smoger is one of the best there is...how many fights has he been involved in that have been some of the best fights fans talk about.
