And say what you will about the likes of Arturo Gatti, Carlos Baldomir, and Sharmba Mitchell- but for a guys "off" opponents, that's pretty good activity.

Floyd deserves his spot at the top of the pound for pound list right now (with Pac and Wink nipping at his heals). He still has a long way to go before he is considered one of the all time greats, but he is certainly the title holder of pound for pound king.
I'm not a big defender of Floyd but this post makes sense. Floyd's lightweight career was excellent. Boxing fans should be better than to criticise. However since then Floyd has cherry picked his opponents taking the least risk for the most reward. Good business. Bad for building a fan base.
Was he top of the P4P list. Yes.
Is he now? No. He's retired.
Is he fit to be mentioned alongside Sugar Ray Robinson?
Silly question. He's not even close to being that much of a household name.

Floyd at current rate is only fit to be mentioned alongside Marciano as a champion with an 0. But just like Marciano noone is under the impression that the 0 makes him the best ever.

Mayweather is just below Ottke in my all time rankings (Ottke fought outside Germany once)

When he was a lightweight, he did a good job and one can build a good start from there.

But when he went up, he chose the coward's way.

Is he p4p? Of course not. Only a moron will pick him as a p4p seeing the list of opponents he has chosen.

Retired or not retired he isn't p4p.

Afterall, only a moron will believe he's retired.

In the past he has spoken **** words and isn't man enough to back them. So how can you trust the word of a guy who can't keep his?

          The answer is simple.

          You don't.

          It's just his excuse.

Jose Luis Castillo ? A good fighter but not great and everyone knows Castillo beat him in there first fight.

Diego Corrales ? I love Diego but he was never that great.

And a Over The Hill ODLH? I mean that's his resume...

If he does stay retired will anyone take him serious 10 years from now?
No offense, but I hate it when boxing fans do this. You could take almost any fighters career and find a way to pick it apart.

Floyd has never fought anyone good.
They were all bums and hasbeens.

End of thread, because that's what the threadmaker wanted to hear.

But going on a deeper analysis, one doesn't need to be Einstein to know his resume sucks.
Ok then who's resume is better?

winky wright, jermain taylor, roy jones, evander holyfield, oscar de la hoya, shane mosley. there are many fighters with better resumes than mayweather. mayweather has not consistently fought the best. he is only p4p for his skills, not his list of opponents.

Dude... some of the names you listed there are kinda funny.

Camacho?? Macho was SO done by the time he faced ODLH. Vargas? Tito shot Nando. Oscar and Shane get NO credit for Vargas.

You would put Castillejo, Molina, Ruelas over Corrales, Judah, Castillo and Chavez? I respectfully disagree, man. Vehemently so.

I actually don't have a problem with Oscar's competition. I think that Oscar's overall competition was excellent. But if you are going to "give" him the Shane win, then please choose from one of these fighters for an additional loss: Sturm, Whitaker, Quartey.

                    Thanks.

Regarding the post that started this thread. I have always tried to be respectful towards PBF, but Hattons victory last night will have given me a license to have a go at PBFs record a a bit more now.
The common demoninator between Hatton and PBF is Kostya, Zab judah and now Castillo. Kostya destroyed zab, who gave PBF tremendous problems. Hatton pulverises Kostya and Castillo who also gave PBF nightmares. Puts everything into perspective for me now and has cleaned things up for me a bit more. My glasses are not so rose tinted now.
