Does a beard really give fighters an advantage..

I decided to make this thread because of the Kimbo thing.
Does a beard really even matter?

I remember they made Jeff Lacy cut his for the Calzaghe fight.

Back in the day it use to not matter.

it has always mattered. Duran was forced to shave his beard sometimes.

And it does give them an advantage. Its probably very slight and meaningless, but it IS an advantage.

It can probably create a cut on the opponent in a very extreme scenario.
At least that's what they say in the amateurs...
Other than that, I highly doubt it.

So the beard makes punches seem weaker is what you're saying?

nah i bet its more of a mental advantage.

Like, if I had a big beard on, i know i would feel more safe from punches.

Idk. But if your about to fight someone for millions of dollars, you dont want them having any advantage over you, you know?

I can't possibly see how it can be an advantage. In all my years of bouncing, I've been ktfo'd when I've had a beard and I've ktfo'd those who've had them. Its just hair.

Win lose or draw, you still get paid.

Having a beard didn't help Shannon Briggs much in his recent WBO heavyweight title fight with Sultan Ibragimov.

The other fighter could get a rash from rubbing against the beard.
