Cotto-Margarito will be HBO PPV, Cotto vs. any of the others besides Mosley would be regular HBO.

Nahhh; if Cotto vs Margarito comes off, it will probably make around 400,000. Cotto/Judah was good enough that people who ordered it will probably gonna order Cotto/Margo. Cotto showed thats his fights are entertaining enough to merit paying for them. But the most important factor is that Margo will bring a lot of mexican fans to the mix, which will significantly add to the numbers. The Mexican/Puertorican rivalry should not be underestimated and the fight should induce east and west coast interest, not like the Cotto/Judah which was basically New York/Puerto Rico. Actually the more I think about it, I wouldnt be surprised if the fight reached 500,000 PPV buys.

Margarito-Cintron did fewer than 30k buys. Margarito is not a draw...

I would factor this if Margarito had a huge mexican following, but he doesnt, im not going to sit here and say that Margarito has anymore fans than Judah, because im being honest, Judah does have quite a few fans across america, everybody in the rap community especially knows him, whereas margarito has a niche mexican following as opposed to a big one, im sorry, Margarito isnt that big and has only fought what...2 times in the last couple years?

Baldomir-Judah was a Showtime fight that few people saw because everyone thought it would be a blowout. Everyone wrote it off as a fluke because Judah barely trained. Against Mayweather he was viewed as being in "top form." There was also that "friends turned enemies" storyline. The rap magazines were writing about the fight.

Here are ppv numbers. Mayweather-Judah was 375K

            PPV buys, JAN-OCT 2006
            1. BOX Oscar DeLa Hoya vs. Ricardo Mayorga 925,000
            2. UFC Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock 775,000
            3. UFC Matt Hughes vs. B.J. Penn 700,000
            4. WWE Wrestlemania 636,000
            5. UFC Matt Hughes vs. Royce Gracie 600,000
            6. UFC Chuck Liddell vs. Renato Sobral 500,000
            7. UFC Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin 425,000
            8. BOX Shane Mosely vs. Fernando Vargas 420,000

You may be right, I think I may be overestimating Margaritos drawing power. Nevertheless, if Margarito beats Williams it will help him a little bit. I know Cotto/Judah helped Cotto put his name out there. Plus; I think HBO will strongly promote Cotto's fights. I think they have tabbed him as a potential star. So I stand by my first instinct of 400,000 buys; but you are right, 500,000 buys is probably too much for this fight.

guys dont forget the only reason we really know about the fight is cause we are diehard boxing fans...floyd jr fights outta vegas and his fights get more promotion.

cotto vs judah was mainly promoted in the new york new jersy area.

not many people in california knew this fight was going down.

Exactly what Ive been saying. People throw out the promotion factor. Judah/Mayweather was big in the Hip Hop world like I have said many times. It was promoted on all of my local rap stations.
