Hatton is my favorite fighter but I have got to be honest here, some of his fights are spoiled by excessive holding. He does not do it all the time, but when he feels he can be hurt then these are the tactics he uses. I am really hoping that his next fight does not turn out this way. Every boxer on the planet does what they think is right to win that fight whether it be holding or running. There aint really too much wrong with it but it can make for a tedious fight sometimes. I think floyd runs too much but I aint gonna bash him for it. It works for him and different styles work for different fighters.

Everyone has too realise that different boxer have different styles. Hatton hits as hard as he can and gets hit as hard as a possible. It's the most stamina effecient way off fighting. What PBF does is no where near as tiring as Hatton does, but it wins him fights so why not. I don't mind watching someone with brilliant defence either, it get me excited to see if he'll get hit or not.

I just read this article on holding. It's a great read:

Before you start penalizing Hatton. Penalize fake Floyd first. He's just as worse bear-hugging.

Hatton must have 4 arms to do that much holding whilst throwing that many punches. No forearm gags necessary.

excellent article. I think Hatton will get warned if he tries to hold repeatedly against Castillo, but to be honest the miniature ruiz analogy is harsh. The Tszyu fight was dirty because of their styles, Collazo actually did his fair share of holding since he didn't want Hatton teeing off on the inside.

Against Urango the holding was really disappointing, especially since the first 4 or so rounds were pretty impressive from Hatton. Even guys who don't like him or didn't know him had to like that.

Funny how the Hatton fans agree hes a hugger but now its that "he had to to get by this fight" or whatever. A few more ****-house fights and even Hattons fans will see the light. Only took 43 fights. Interesting...

I don't mind Hatton's clinching as much as I do, say, Wladimir Klitschko's in that Peter fight because Hatton actually WORKS when he's holding on the inside. He'll maul you and hold you, but he'll throw to the body in there too.

Excessive holding should not be allowed though.

Rather a political post don't you think? Hatton fans are on the whole fairly realistic. Hatton got criticism for his holding late in the Urango fight on his own message board. To hold being realistic about your favourite fighter as some sort of weakness is frankly pathetic. Hatton's performance against Urango was awesome for six rounds, dominant for three rounds and disappointing for the last three, and there's no point in trying to deny it. The fact remains that most of Hatton's fights have been entertaining and exciting, and even the bad fights have had their exciting moments.
