kimbo vs mercer

your obviously not here as a boxing fan when you talk about "pillows".
He wasnt hurt by any punches, he covered up well in the exact same fashion he has always done in the ring while his opponent wears himself out throwing a flurry, he also blocked the mauy thai knees. Because he covered up doesnt mean he was hurt. The different sized gloves didnt stop him blocking punches and kimbos elbow shots. You need to go watch some of his classic fights and see that he wasnt hurt just because he covered up. Kimo took the leg rather than have to get hit back.
You seem to think mercer was representing boxing and kimbo represented mma. They both were mma rookies, both trained for the same amount of time, and yes ray did, he had to under the supervision of the NJSACB to be mma liscened.
3 other fights on that card ended in 1st round submissions due to chokes also, 2 of which ended quicker than he mercer kimbo fight did!3 other fights ended in 2nd round submissions. Big deal, are those guys "exposed" too?
You say "exposed"!!! As what? A 46 year old man by any chance!
Your obviously trying to besmirch boxing compared to mma in that juvenile manner that even the majority on the mma forum sherdog pull people up for.
Kimbo could rematch him in a ring or under his backyard rules and Ray would likely win. He said he wanted to **** with Mercer but didnt have the balls to back up his words and went straight for the takedown which was the only strategy he could use to win, you might say that was intelligent but it proves nothing.
Tyson advised him not to go into pro boxing for a reason after all! He wouldnt make it at any level, but his whole rep is built on that image of going hand to hand.
I noticed that Mercer threw one punch in the whole fight and that one punch grazed kimbos cheek leaving a large swelling, Mercer was unmarked and on his feet straight after the choke hold was broken, hardly a beatdown like you suggest! A technical one sided quick win just like the other 3 early wins on that card but i dont see you looking into those guys backgrounds besmirching whatever martial art background they come from. Just look at shamrock vs ortiz to see someone beaten quick, it can happen to anyone. Why dont you take the piss out of shamrock for is background. Why not take the piss out of Liddell for getting ko`d in 2 minutes, or crocop for his 1st round knockout, that must expose him and his background then lol.
When he faced an mma guy [gannon] his crew jumped in and insisted on it being boxing only! When he is bareknuckle boxing he only goes up against guys who cant punch when for the past 2 years he has been pro trained in boxing. Honourable!! Worse of all are those trainers who were party to those street fights against the untrained. Now he is going to fight another shot 40 year old man on a losing streak, Tank Abbott! I dont see a warrior in any of that. He knows he has a glass jaw.Last edited by lennon; 06-24-2007, 05:15 PM.Comment

The difference between the two is that Mercer had Liberio as a ground instructor and from the looks of it, didn't take his directions seriously. That choke was elementary stuff. Just turn the head, pass it through and drop 'bows.
And no, it's not chicken**** to say one thing and do another. That's called mental strategy. It had Mercer thinking he was going for a walk in the park when he should have been ready for everything. The same thing happened to CroCop. Did it expose him? Other then having the wrong gameplan, no, nothing got exposed. He thought he was going to grind out of a ground war and was superised by recieving some of his own medicine.
I'm surprised by how clean Kimo's game plan was and how well it went off. My hats off to Bas and Randy. They know to build of strengths as well as create some as well.Comment

This horse has been beaten to death.
It was beaten to death before the fight,
and then it was substantially ground into McDonald's patties after the fight. Regardless of anyone's argument, this matter is dead now. Stop bring up things that were already brought up 5+ times. Use the search function before you try to make a point. It gets very visually tiring for everyone on this board, when the exact same points are brought up.
