Roberto Duran, had an uncanny ability to slip punches. The KO's and KD's, were a thing of beauty. Great combinations. His resume is a who's who of boxing. First man to beat Ray Leonard, in his prime. Duran was 72-1 when he beat Ray. Iran Barkley, Pipino Cuevas, King Carlos Palomino, Davey Moore, Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, Wilfred Benitez, Camacho Sr.
Robbie Simms Haglers Brother. William Joppy, Vinny Pazienza....

    119 Total Fights. 70 KO's

    Lightweight Champion
    Welterweight Champion
    Middleweight Champion

I still think Duran's family were put at risk when he fought Ray the second time. Duran wasn't the type to just quit becuase of a stomach ache.

It's a rumour that's been fly around for years, apparently the Mafia threatened Duran's family and told him to throw the fight. A lot of people (myself included) belive this becuase Duran just wasn't the type, to quit over stomach aches which he said he had.

Duran was a beast at 130... he's considered to be one of the best, if not the best lightweight of all time....

Thats not true. All that time that has passed, Duran wouldve been said that ****. Thats just a excuse people made up because like you, they couldnt imagine Duran quiting. The fact is Sugar Ray was a beast and just because you beat a guy the 1st time doesnt mean you will beat him the 2nd time. Duran was a great little man but he faded as he got bigger. He wasnt better at that weight then SR. I give him credit for the 1st victory but he had no chance in the rematch.

Plus, it makes no sense for them to do that. Think about it. Why would they do that for a fight like this when the odds were pretty even? Sure Duran was great and won the 1st match but SR wasnt a bum. Alot of people still had him winning the rematch. No matter what, it wasnt so much in Duran's favor where people would tell him to throw the fight. The mafia does that in fights like Floyd vs Gatti when everyone knows that Floyd is going to win. Some think they did it for Liston & Ali when everyone thought Liston would kill Ali. The Duran-SRL fight still had pretty close odds. Not nearly enough to make them want someone to throw the fight.
