Well after the performances Toney and Rahman put on recently he definitely deserves it over them.

lol,,,,big wins 10+ yrs ago dont warrant title shots. he's 42 yrs old now and hasnt beaten any serious guys to warrant an immediate title shot,,unless you consider drawing with tos and losing to jcg title worthy

Either that or beating those two won't help get a title shot. Yeah I think it's the latter.

Speaking of Akinwande, he's going to be fighting Oleg Platov again on June 30 on the same card as Povetkin vs. Donald. These type of heavyweight matches are good for boxing - the up and comer against the veteran.

Old boxer vs mediocre boxer matchups - such as McCall vs. Sam, Toney vs. Batchelder, and Rahman vs. Sykes - are not entertaining and don't do anything good for the sport.

He's always been a tough opponent for anyone he's ever faced though. After he beat Akinwande 7 years ago he's continued to beat some reasonable opponents and have a couple of fairly close loses. There's people ahead of him but there's also been people who have gotten shots for a lot less. McCall is never an easy fight for anyone.

I agree fully with that. I just dont agree with the original poster on the "immediate title fight" deal. he's as strong and durable as they come and will make even the best punchers at least break a sweat and go rounds but based off his last few years I dont see why he should be granted an immediate title fight like he's just won a huge fight over a top 5 contender or something. now if someone does give him a title fight I wouldnt call it absurd either, like you said there's been far worse fighters getting title shots than 42 yr old ollie

I'm with it.....especially considering recent title bouts and people who fought for them,Austin,Briggs,Liakovich all the way back to maskaev.....and funny thing is 3 out of 4 of these guys won.McCall IMO is better than all these guys.
