Or did he not? I don't know enough about the guy to know if he's a dodger or not. Some people on the forum have hate for him, and I think they might be ignorant on the competition in the super middle weight division. But I just want to know from someone who knows about boxing, if Joe took the easy route or if he didn't. Like people say who has calzaghe beat?
Did Joe Calzaghe take on the best supermiddle weights of his era?

Well im not sure weather there was alot to pick from but he is still the champion so its still his era now!!! He hasnt fought kessler or Mundine he didnt even ottke so i dont think he is as good as they make him out to be!!!
Was he around when Rjj an Toney were smw???Comment

smart people don't fight ottke, since everyone was basically robbed against him other then mundine who got ko'd by him. You would have to ko him and make sure he doesn't get the hell up to beat Ottke. Or else you'd get robbed.Comment

It's generally agreed that, while Calzaghe will fight pretty much anyone (and win, it seems), his manager/promoter generally ****s up many of the more exciting matchups abroad in favor of less difficult fights at home. It's kept Calzaghe from making the enormous bucks such as that of Oscar and Mayweather, but he's still stinking rich enough that he won't be flipping burgers after he retires from the ring, and I think most also agree that, whether he was able to step into the ring with the absolute best supermiddles or not, he is, if not the best, he's so close to it as to be indistinguishable, and his undefeated record and record title defenses have easily earned him a place in the BHOF.Last edited by Guest; 06-17-2007, 11:14 PM.Comment

total fraud he fights kabary salem, mger mkrtchian, juan carlos gimenez ferreyra, branko sobot, peter manfredo jr as title defenses, um hi these people i doubt are even real, he doesnt care about being good at boxing cause if he did he would have made the fights happen at any weight class with good fighters. He just cares about making a decent living by tricking euros with his magical title defense streak wheeeeeeComment

Nope. Little Ricky has ventured out more than Joe C. has.
Joe could have fought Toney,Roy Jones,Michael Nunn
if he really wanted to take that step.Comment

Toney was at cruiser weight by the time JC won his title.
RJJ was at LHW and was done with taking on real fighters by then. He wasn't interested when they did try to make the fight.
Nunn wasn't worth fighting by 97.
The best fight he could have made was Hopkins. It was all agreed then Hopkins curiously priced himself out at the last minute.Comment
