I agree with you to an extent that Malignaggi isn't nearly as accomplished as Hatton right now, but he does hold a belt and Hatton doesn't. So it sort of makes sense at some level as I don't think Mayweather is coming out of retirement and the winner of Margarito/Williams is probably fighting Cotto. Maybe Vivian Harris is an option as someone else suggested but this seems as good of an option.

Yeah, Malignaggi was "in the ring" with Cotto, but he got slaughtered. He has not shown anything that demonstrates that he is prepared for Hatton.

I would favor Hatton to simply overwhelm him. N'Dou was able to land shots but he didn't commit to the body enough and he didn't cut off the ring well enough. Hatton does both much better and as a result I think he wins a UD. I don't think he will stop Malignaggi because Cotto couldn't.
come on man....nobody is saying ndou is a legend, but he is a good fighter & makes u earn a win should he lose....paulie schooled him from start to finish & paulie showed he is a MOBILE fighter, NOT A RUNNER, like we have seen recently....he beat ndou easier than cotto did & ndou took the fight against miguel on short notice.....& if collazo can box , frusterate & many believe BEAT hatton, so can paulie....ye i would say hatton gets the edge over all however, been in the top level longer....
going back to the PM-cotto fight.....for a kid fighting mostly out of the hammerstein ball room to jump up to a level like cotto, he didn't do half bad & had his moments at times (despite having a broken face, lol....he impressed many people)

two things i think hatton has over cotto is he's more ring savy and intelligent and has a better chin. like ive said i think hatton would have learnt in the collazo fight and be able to cut off ring which is a major obstacle against mali.
then hatton will fight his fight more.

i think this match up comes down to the referee........if its a ref like eddie cotton, then malignaggi wins....

if its a ref that allows hatton to clinch and maul, then hatton wins.

Nah I don't think the ref would be a factor. N'Dou just isn't the technician that Hatton is. And in case you missed it all of the clinching on Saturday night was done by Malignaggi.
