Depends on what one defines as a generation...could be lots of guys.

Mayweather, Jones, Lopez, Whitaker, Chavez...whatever. Pick a time period and the ought to tell you.

Winky Wright as soon as he beats Hopkins.

Resume is amazing and accomplishments are great. He should be soon mentioned along Marvin Hagler.

I would choose Roy Jones Jr., Joe Calzaghe, Floyd Mayweather, Wladimir Klitschko, or Ricky Hatton.

I can't put RJJ on this list as in my opinion he really never accomplished very much. He has 1 good win on his resume and that is James Toney who can be up and down as we all know. He fought Hopkins when he was still learning and then refused to grant him a rematch. He then cleaned the LHW division out beating construction workers and policemen. He then beat the worst and easiest to beat HW champion ever (for a small guy). Sure on paper if we don't look at who he beat he seems to have done a lot, championships at 4 weight classes but he really doesn't have a very good resume.
My opinion is that our generation lacks a truly great champion. Mayweather has a similar although not as glaring resume problem, Hopkins never really beat a great MW, DLH lost all of his biggest fights. Pernell Whitaker certainly is a legend but I am not sure he is from the current era of boxing.

Floyd Mayweather, Roy Jones, or Bernard Hopkins

Lol, how is Winky's resume amazing? If he beats Hopkins he's up there but he won't. His best 2 victories are Shane Mosley, and Trinidad. Hopkins had been beat up Trinidad, and Mosley doesn't belong at 154.
