I don't really think he can. Well, i hate cotto for being plainly put, evil. But putting that aside and sticking to facts only, can he really make a statement in boxing? I think not, for two reasons(dispite the hate):
His chin.
His style.

He fights on the iside and his not too kin of using the jab (maybe his height has to do with it?) and his chin is really poor. Fighting like that is more than likely he will get hit, alot. All sluggers do. I don't see anyone who can do that sort of damage though, margarito has the style for it but he seems kind of small for cotto, i don't know. Anyway, whoever destroys him i hope they hit him in the nuts first and say "how's that feels huh?" TWICE

Im almost done with this website because there are far too many people on here who instead of wanting to discuss boxing want to spew bs hate and mull around because they were wrong, things didnt go the way they had predicted so its time to make ridiculous rants like this ****head has done. You know my biggest problem with being a fan of boxing is finding other real life fans of boxing to enjoy watching fights with and when a fighter like Cotto comes along and lays it all on the line to get the W people should appreciate it not try to tear these guys down. Guys like Cotto will be the type of fighters and fight the type of fights that will revive boxing. You may not be a big fan of his for reasons I dont get but show some ****in class, show some intelligence. You can question the low blows, but threads like this simply cheapin this website!

Cotto Already Made It..he Did Have Some Points He Throws Wide Shots And To Throw His Shots Straight He Would Have To Use The Cross Arm Defense The Whole Time Which Would Be Great And Make Him Even Better Withe Even More Power .. That's what I think as well. The only guy to put him down was Torres and even though he was hurt the KD wasn't really caused by punch he pushed him down and was given the KD. His defense leaves him open for sure, but when you fight they way he fights, your bound to get hit. So far So good.

The problem with Cotto and all PR fighters is that they are trained to fight like professionals from day one. There is a huge difference fighting amateur and pro. The transition however for PR fighters is a lot easier once they turn pro.

You'll have some what knowledge of boxing so let me ask you guys this.... When a boxer who fights to the body more then other fights, LOW BLOWS ARE BOUND TO HAPPEN. SO lay off Cotto with his "golata or cheater names then man is one of the few who can turn a non boxer fan into a boxing fan. He is like a Jesus Christ to the sport right now among other fighters too. He handled it like a man, he apologized, hug and was sincere.
