Hatton throws more than Cotto and Cotto won fairly clearly against Paulie, despite Malignaggis's brave effort. I reckon Rick would beat Paulie more clearly than Miguel did. Especially if you take into account that Cotto was severely weight drained at 140 by the time he took on the Magic Man.

But the real reason for my reply is the part I have quoted in bold.

Before the Collazo fight he had four consecutive stoppage wins, the last one being at the end of 2005. Considering that he's only fought twice in the intervening 18 months I don't really think you can hold it against him too badly.

Damn as usual this thread turned into one big troll fest courtesy of the UK fans. It's like they can't even critically approach a fight such as Malignaggi-Hatton. Instead it's "Hatton would murder him blah blah blah." There's a thin line between having pride in your hometown fighters and straight up **** riding.

I was really impressed with Malignaggi tonight. The kid has great leg work and is very slick. It's not like Lovemore wasn't trying because there were times in the fight, especially late, where he was applying A LOT of pressure. To his credit, Paulie stuck to his gameplan and nullified all of the aggression with a great combination of elusive defense and combination punching that Lovemore never had an answer for.

I think Hatton is insanely overrated and in no way shape or form this beast that most Brits make him out to be. A guy like Paulie would keep snapping his head back all night long with that jab and has the stamina to keep moving on the back foot all night long against the forward coming Hatton. Paulie withstood Cotto's bone-crushing body assault so I don't see Hatton hurting him at all. Also, with Hatton's short arms he couldn't even reach in on Paulie and make him pay, he would be hitting air all night long. I really feel Paulie would make it look easy like he did tonight. I can see a guy like Vivian Harris beating Paulie though. Harris boxes well as well and has a great jab to match Paulie's. He is fast enough to leap in with that killer right hand of his and possibly KO Malignaggi as well. That would be a fight I'd love to see.
