Wasn't Pakau a late substitute. I remember seeing that fight and it was a obvious mismatch. Williams even though he didn't stop Pakau until late he was beating the **** out of him. I wouldn't rate him just on that performance because against Margarito you know he is going to be ready and gonna be bringing his A game. I'll agree I don't know if Williams is going to be the next best thing, but I think he will beat Margarito.
Who has Paul Williams beat?

On July 15th, the answer to your question will be Antonio Margarito...This guy is getting to much hype in my opinion. His power isnt any good. He hit Walter Matthysse about 32923892389320 times and stopped him on his feet aftyer Matthysse was exhausted from about the 2nd round on. Matthysse was getting at Williams too when he was fresh, but he was just a puncher who lacked stamina. Williams did prove he had a hell of a chin though thats for sure. He doesnt possess any real boxing skills he fights ont he inside a lot. He throws 100s of punches though and keeps very busy, has a good chin, and good stamina it seems. I think he has pretty bad defense though. He hasnt beat anybody to get excited about either. Sharmba Mitchell who he was about 10x bigger than and Mitchell is a shot fighter, and an untested prosepct in Matthysse. He is just extremely tall sao people are excited about him.
I think Margarito will beat him. Im not sure though it should be a very good fight.
I just hope Margarito wins so we get Cotto-Margarito.Comment

What makes him so great is that hes 6'4" [according to Goosen] w/82" reach. Hes got a chin, ill output, conditioning, and can throw every punch in the book. Hes not afraid to get inside and **** w/the boys no is he scared of gassing. Whats not to like?
What more can you ask for?
So what his resume is slim, but he had less than 20 am's fights and grows w/every fight. Sures hes got c h i n k' s, but most important is that he improves and doesnt stagnate. Been watching him since 04'. Chris Eubanks resume is uber thin and alot of people on the forum think he woulda beat SRR. Hmmm.
He will merk Margarita and end all this hype about Margy being "feared." If that isnt hype I dont know what is.
I seriously dont see how anyone would say he doesnt have skills. The proof is in the pudding and The Punisher is the Most Feared Mandatory in the division. Theres new blood in town gents.Last edited by McNulty; 06-12-2007, 08:30 PM.Comment

Every fighter is untested until he is tested. Paul Williams has all the tools to become the next big thing in the Welterweight division...Anyone and I mean Anyone in the division would have trouble with the Punisher. If you use common opponents and round stoppages as a guage Williams got rid of Shamba Mitchell before Pretty Boy...also how come nobody is mentioning the rumors/stories...(which I tend to believe are true since I've read them from some reputable boxing writers) that Williams handed Margarito his ass in sparring sessions...if anything that is worth a big mental edge in Williams corner along with all of his other skills....Either way I can't wait until July 14th...this has fight of the year written all over it!Last edited by bcromedy; 06-12-2007, 08:41 PM.Comment

paul williams hasnt really beaten anyone, but that doesent really matter
people were saying the same things about kelly pavlik
the fact of the matter is that if you have watched williams fight and you know a little bit about boxing you can see he has what it takes to fight on the world class level.... he beat mattyhse easily who is a decent fighter, if you want to make light of that then you should be shredding cintron for fighting mattyshe now after he has been exposed by williams as one dimensional.
margarito has beat a bunch of crock of **** opponents as title defenses, at least williams was just fighting his way up.
williams is gonna hand margarito his ass, probably wont stop him...
but im gonna guess 118-110 on the scorecard.Comment

Paul Williams hasn't fought anyone, but everyone knows that. I don't understand the relevance. He isn't being touted as a top fighter. He is just thought of as an interesting prospect who could break through against Margarito. You don't have to beat someone to be a good fighter. That debate is only relevant when you're trying to create lists like P4P rankings and whatnot.Comment
