  • Is Ricky Hatton allowed to talk P4P?

Just curious. He says he wants to be the #1 P4P fighter by beating Mayweather Jr. and whatnot. Yet he goes up to 147lbs, obviously couldn't hack it, drops back down. Now P4P means to some that 1 fighter in 1 weight class has the style to beat anyone in another weight class. Or to others it means, a fighter actually DOES go up and down the scales beating people up. Now let's talk about a fighter actually going up and down. Ricky obviously is at his set weight class at 140lbs cause he can't go up it seems. Does this make him uneligible to be true P4P material?

No it doesn't. P4P is all about who would be the best fighter if weight was not an issue. It has nothing to do with how many weight divisions you have conquered. Look at B-Hop, who was on the p4p lists for ages before he changed weight division.

ricky can talk p4p if he says stuff like "Im between 8-10 on the p4p list and beating an old JLC wont put me in the top 5."

If someone is really a top 10 fighter in the entire world, which is what P4P is about, they should be able to move up one division and dominate everyone in that division. In Hatton's case, 140 to 147 is a huge step up in terms of the class of opponents. I would not expect Hatton to beat Mosley, PBF, or Margarito. I think I could consider him P4P if I felt he could be a top 5 welterweight, but when the guy isn't even a clear favorite over lower top 10 guys like Clottey, Williams, etc. he is just simply not a P4P level fighter...

Agreed. Also if ricky beats castillo then he should rank quite high on the p4p lists

But then, your assuming that fighter could beat the other fighter at whatever weight. But if he doesn't actually go to these other weights to find out, how do you know? Are you saying if a fighter that fights in 1 weight class his entire career, beats everyone in that 1 weight class, is the best fighter in the world? Yet he hasn't tested his body moving up and down the scales? Styles change when your body changes. A fighter might lose strength or stamina going up/down. Explain abit more please.

Since he nicked my theory, lol, (joking piggy)

                  Ill explain,

He is talking about the real meaning of pound for pound, which is...

Who are the best fighters in the world when the attributes are not affected by weight?

example, if a boxers power, speed, etc were not affected by weight, (because weight can determine speed and power). who are the best fighters in the world?

Thus why it is mythical, you cant neutralise the attributes of a fighter affected by weight, its a guessing game,

Example. imagining who would win between pbf and pacman if weight played no part making pbf faster or slower than pacman, and if weight played no part in making pacman more powerful than pbf. etc etc.

It basically means, "who are the best fighters in the world skill for skill"

has nothing to do with moving up weight classes.

Piggy can explain the rest for me, i done it a million times.

Ah k. So now your take on Hatton based on what you just said? So this would also mean you don't care that he went up to 147lbs, got ass whooped, decides to go back down to 140lbs and never go back up again. You wouldn't care and would still rank him P4P #1 some day figuretively?
