That may just be in your experience. There are plenty of ****ed up marriages out there, of course, but there are plenty of good ones too. I'm getting married in July, so obviously i support the idea of marriage, and my Mother and Father seperated when i was young after a bad marriage so i'd have reason to be against it in that respect. Marriage and divorce is just a fact of life, but i believe i've met the right person and my marriage will work out, and there are obviously many that do.

Wrong, i'm getting Married because i want to get married and believe that it is the right decision. If you married someone just because they wanted to get married then you're living a lie IMO. You may say you'll marry someone because you love them, but if it's not enough to make you want to get married then why do it? Doesn't make sense to me!

Marriage is hard work. You have to put in effort to make it work. When you put in effort then you get a lot out of it. When you don't it fails. The reason for rising divorce rates in recent years (though the rates have been falling for two years now) is that there's a culture of entitlement. There's a whole industry dedicated to promoting a lifestyle in which your every whim can be satisfied without the need to work for it. In a culture like that what chance does something like the institution of marriage stand?
