Is James Toney a bum?

Vote, if you think he's a heavy-weight bum. Now, I'm not asking you to judge him on his early career, I'm asking you to judge him as a heavy-weight.

he's obviously not a bum but he's shot and should retire before he ends up with brain damage ( if he doesnt already have it)

I agree. He never should have been a Heavyweight and the fact his speech is starting to slur and does not have a great work ethic makes for a dangerous mix. But he is no bum. In fact, I think it is impressive that he has been able to compete with Heavyweight boxers at all (and was as close as someone could be to winning a title).

But at this point he is probably too old to make any more significant noise in the division. But then again, I learned a long time ago you can't count anyone out.

Exactly, and I thought he beat Peter in the first fight too.

I don't think that Toney is a bum. If he could drop to around 210 lbs he would be unstoppable. He is well past his prime and all that extra weight is only going to make him more vulnerable to gettinhg a beat down. His early level of competition was phenomenal and you have to respect that he never ducked anyone from 160 to Heavyweight. I like Toney but he needs to step down and wait for induction in the Hall of Fame. He is a first ballot Hall of Famer.

Toney's really hit 'rock botton' if he can't dominate a journeyman like Batchelder who was hand picked to make him look good. Just think for a minute, Toney went from giving solid hw performances when he fought Holyfield, Ruiz, Rahman, and even Peter the first time around, to where he is today...I don't know is it because he stopped using steroids? Remember, he tested positive for steroids after the Ruiz fight.....
